Technical Marketing Engineer (up to Job Grade 10)

The Business Entity

This Product TME position is in support of Cisco’s Internet of Things (IoT) initiatives. This position will reside within the IoT Connectivity Business; however, the candidate will be required to work collaboratively across various technology organizations.

 What You'll Do

Roles and Responsibilities:

Specific job responsibilities may include:


  • Participate in customer and partner meetings to gather requirements and to provide training.

  • Create detailed marketing collateral targeted for both Technical Decision Makers (TDMs) and Business Decision Makers (BDMs) describing the application of Cisco’s IoT products and systems.

  • Present Cisco’s IoT solutions both internally and externally.

  • Support field personnel in pre-sales technical consultations and customer meetings.

  • Create proof of value demos which can be leveraged for trade shows and customer/partner engagements.

  • Understand industry trends and drivers which impact the overall architecture /design of products and systems for IoT

  • Articulate product and technology alternatives as they apply to multiple IoT verticals. In this role, there will be a focus on:

    • Energy (Utilities, Oil and Gas)

    • Transportation

    • Public Sector

  • Perform competitive analysis of offerings from various other vendors. This may include paper analysis as well as driving cross-functional testing efforts.

  • Work with solutions testing organizations to identify network architectures and specific test / validation requirements.

  • Work in close collaboration with Product Managers, other TMEs and Business Development leads to drive sales of the IoT Connectivity portfolio

    Required Education:

    Typically requires BS/MS/Engineering or equivalent plus extensive experience in a network engineering or telecommunications environment.  

    Who You Are

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in a network engineering or telecommunications environment.

  • Significant experience in THREE of the following and strong knowledge in all other areas of:

    • IOS/IOS-XE Operating System

    • IP Routing protocols (RIP, OSFP, IS-IS, EIGRP, BGP, including IPv4 and IPv6)

    • MPLS Technologies – Psuedowire transport (SAToP, CESoPSN), L2VPN, L3VPN, MPLS-TP, FlexLSP, OAM.

    • Network/Cyber Security (Firewall, IPS, DMVPN, GETVPN, FlexVPN)

    • Advanced QoS

    • Precise Timing – IEEE 1588 (PTP), GPS, SyncE

    • Understanding of legacy protocols (RS-232/422/485), DNP3, Modbus, 60870-5-101 with raw socket transport, 4WE&M, C37.94

  • Cross functional team experience

  • Demonstrated Leadership abilities

  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills

    Desired Skills:

  • CCIE Routing & Switching

  • Industry knowledge in one or more of the targeted IoT verticals

  • Industrial Routing platform knowledge – ASR 920, ASR 902, ASR 903, CGR 2010
