What You'll Do

The Cloud Service Engineer (CSE) is a highly technical role, requiring hands on development, that provides architectural and operational services for cloud products from design through release and throughout the lifecycle of the offer. This is a very collaborative role as the CSE acts as a leader to multi-functionally integrated requirements such as security, compliance, sourcing and quality metrics. The CSE is always learning to stay ahead of the curve on cloud delivery developments and trends to be sure to understand the most current thinking and how it applies to Cisco’s SaaS strategy.

Your Key Responsibilities include:

  • Provide the technical support needed to partner with the SW Product Lifecycle Manager (SW PLM) to conduct the Design for Cloud, Operations and Cost Optimization consultations
  • Partner with supporting internal and external infrastructure teams, facilitate interactions with the businesses
  • Prepare the business units and their products/services for cloud deployment
  • Communicate the implications of cloud service feature design and all related deployment governance policies and procedures
  • Aid in the design and guide execution of any mitigation plans required to move the service toward cloud readiness and maturity
  • Build and lead the cost model for the cloud services; including optimizing the configuration for cost
  • Collaborate with teammates and cross-functional partners to evolve the CloudOps service offerings
  • Participate in identification and development of automation opportunities

Who You'll Work With

The Cloud Service Engineer is a key member of the CloudOps team; a specialized group of cloud infrastructure, platform and application experts, who support software engineering teams across Cisco. This team engages from initial design and planning through cloud service provider selection, strategy, onboarding, automation and ongoing optimization.

Who You Are

You are a hands-on engineer who is able to collaborate cross functionally and deliver solutions with limited oversight in a dynamic environment. Customer-focused with strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills; able to express clearly to both business and technical partners through written and verbal communication. You’re ability to think analytically take ownership of the technical relationship and drive customer success is key to making an impact.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Requires BA/BS in engineering or related field; Master’s degree preferred
  • 8+ years relevant experience
  • Strong automation development skills. Needs to be proficient in one or more automation languages [i.e. Ansible, Cloud Formations, Chef, Puppet, Terraform]
  • Hands-on experience with at least one of industry cloud offerings: AWS, Azure and GCP
  • Deep understanding of and exposure to native cloud application architecture; including the operational trade-offs of various designs
  • Profound understanding of cloud component architecture: Microservices, Containers, XaaS, Storage, Security, LogaaS and DBaaS (NOSQL, OLTP, Analytics).
  • Experience designing production environments that span applications, systems and network
  • Experience in operating cloud native service at enterprise scale
  • Deep understanding operational architecture practices in cloud deployments
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices, processes, tools and culture
  • Agile-experienced; Scrum certification; experience leading cross-functional Scrum teams
  • Experience in multi-tier traditional application architectures
  • Experience in service decomposition and micro services
  • Deep understanding of MaaS, NFV, SDN and other IaaS concepts
  • Working experience in Containers
  • Deep understanding of CI/CD tools and agile development methodology
  • Ability to bring structure to problems effectively and work towards practical solutions
  • Ability to lead multiple engagements with various teams
  • Exposure to large-scale services, managed services or information technology operations with industry leading players is desirable
  • Working knowledge of CloudHealth or similar cloud cost management tool is desirable
