Who You'll Work With

Cisco Advanced Lab Operations (CALO) is seeking a Software Engineer to play an integral role in delivering support services to Cisco's customers. This individual will be help develop, maintain, and support the Web and automation tools which provide access to Cisco's global network of support labs.

From day one, the Software Engineer will be patching and enhancing code and will participate and drive development of new solutions and tools. This is an amazing opportunity to be challenged with interesting and complex problems, and to help thousands of colleagues do their best work.

Who You Are

The successful candidate will have the following skills and expertise:

- Experience developing and supporting production applications for medium-to-large enterprises.

- Demonstrable ability to master complex existing systems.

- Excellent communication abilities & able to dive into existing code and follow along. The Software Engineer will work alongside and receive initial support from Lead Software Engineer, but will be expected to drive individual development tasks.


Required skills:

Strong Interpersonal Communication Skills.

Adept at learning new technologies.

Strong python experience. Python3 preferred.

Strong GIT or a similar source version control system experience.

Moderate to Strong Networking experience.

Moderate to Strong Linux experience.

Strong Regular Expressions abilities.


Strongly Preferred skills:

Experience with Cisco IOS/XR/XE/NXOS/ASA.

Automation of CLI processes via expect.

Experience with distributed worker systems.

Experience with Python unit testing


Nice to have skills:

Experience with the Python Celery library.

RabbitMQ / AMQP / Pika

Creating or working with REST API’s

Experience working with Ansible or Chef

vSphere / OpenStack



  Who You'll Work With

Cisco Advanced Lab Operations (CALO) enables technical support and testing in labs across the globe. This lab is used to by customer support engineers to test, recreate and debug network issues for Cisco's customers.

The Team

* Active power management for networked devices. * Server and network virtualization with image and configuration sharing scaled for hundreds of engineers local and worldwide. * Automation and management of lab infrastructure devices. * Sharing of equipment through a fully meshed lab infrastructure * Proactive network automation, collection of inventory data and device health information, and fault detection.* Sharing of equipment through a fully meshed lab infrastructure

What You'll Do

* Use the case-tracking tool to track case work flow ensuring service level agreements are met * Train lab workers about lab processes and policies, use of lab tools for inventory and case management, and establishing IOS layer 2 and 3 with the lab infrastructure. * Identify and assign lab tasks to the lab workers to perform * Subject matter expert and escalation to assist the lab workers in complex recreates

Who You Are

Minimum Qualifications

* Must have strong negotiating and technical skills to influence Engineers by advising them on equipment substitutions and/or alternative solutions with equipment available. * Effective written and oral communication * Excellent interpersonal skills and able to work with difficult people. * Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet established service level agreements. * Experience reading network topology and determining device connectivity. * Experience performing basic router and switching configuration tasks and connectivity troubleshooting with the following Cisco devices including routers, switches, firewalls.  

Desired Skills

* Experience with Cisco IOS, NX-OS and IOS-XE required * Experience coding with Python * CCNP R&S and Cisco networking work experience * Experience working in a lab environment * Experience working with remote end users * Experience with using a networking test tool such as IXIA or Spirent
