What You'll Do

The Business Entity

Create customer value by delivering outcomes that solve the most critical business challenges

Who You'll Work With

Cisco Services is a multi-billion dollar world-wide business. The Services Offer and Platform Development team builds and deploys software systems that directly support Cisco’s Services offerings. Our team is composed of over 500 Engineers across the US, Europe, China and India. Our journey is about shifting from Enterprise Software Development model towards a DevOps-based Software as a Service (SaaS) model fully leveraging big data and distributed data analytics. We are adopting cloud technologies and deploying into a hybrid environment consisting of public cloud, Cisco data centers and on customer premises. Billions of dollars hinge on our team’s efforts.

Who You Are

 Role and Responsibility

“Intellectual Capital” (IC) is the Cisco term for the knowledge of how to detect issues and fix them. It can be patterns in logs, algorithms built using Machine Learning, or just matching specific errors from specific device families on a certain software version. It also spans to understanding how to correct those issues. IC is the metadata that is the crown jewel of decades of support experience.   This position is responsible for the design of the software and systems that create, store, index, share, catalog, and then apply that IC. Strong understanding of log processing, filtering, and pattern matching is mandatory. Strong understanding of indexing metadata is required. Experience with data interchange systems (translation, currency conversion, etc.) would have built the kinds of skills needed for success in this role.

You must be the type of person who has a track record in building and shipping products, comfortable eating your own dog food and wearing many hats in the process of planning, designing and delivering platforms, tools and services to customers. This role is highly technical and includes hands-on development work, guiding other experienced Engineers and Operations staff, designing and reviewing designs, work-flows and how many distributed micro-services interact to form a foundation for our software SaaS. While this role is not a direct management role it manages technology and solutions and requires exceptional technical judgement.  A background managing technical teams is strongly desired.  The most important attribute in this role is the ability to quickly grasp complex problems and technologies and pragmatically map solutions to those problems – including the ability to prototype solutions yourself. A strong understanding of network support and networking technologies is highly desired.

This role will require a strong understanding of the existing IC tooling. Candidates would either already have that knowledge or be very fast learners, capable of conducting technical investigation through code and document inspection and verbal exploration with subject matter experts. Excellent communication and collaboration skills are mandatory.

Minimum Qualifications

● 10+ years experience building, deploying and operating complex distributed system software

● Significant experience with both stream and batch log processing, especially with triggers on patterns

● Must have significant software development experience

● Must have a Systems background – experience with complex interlocking systems is vital

● A strong cloud background is expected – has deployed at least one solution on the cloud

● Hands-on experience with modern distributed systems: Kubernetes, Cassandra, Hadoop, MongoDB

● Experienced with modern cloud-based software tools and approaches (Git, CI/CD, automated testing)

● Bachelor degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience

● Still hands-on - able to contribute code as well as design systems

● Exceptional written and spoken communication skills and Executive presence

● Detail-oriented personality who does not lose sight of the big picture

● Entrepreneurship — self-starter who inspires others with their work ethic and drive
