Job Description

Arbour-Fuller Hospital is an 102-bed licensed, private psychiatric facility located in South Attleboro, Mass. Inpatient units are designed to treat adults with general psychiatric or intellectual disabilities, as well as adolescents with general psychiatric issues. Patients with co-occurring psychiatric and substance abuse disorders can be treated on most units. There are also partial hospitalization programs (PHP) for patients with psychiatric and co-occurring psychiatric and substance abuse disorders.

The responsibilities for the Activity Therapist include performing initial activity therapy assessments, identifying problem areas and developing appropriate treatment goals.  Also, facilitating 3-4 groups a day, completing group documentation and communicating with other members of the treatment team via treatment planning, team meetings or other means.  Responsible for providing education to MHS’ through both formal and informal means to ensure that therapeutic group facilitation is effective in teaching positive coping skills and is appropriate in its delivery.  Finally, responsible for maintaining accurate and timely documentation.

Job Requirements


Master’s Degree in Allied Health field, Bachelor’s  degree in Art, Music, or Recreation Therapy, with Board Certification or  CTRS certification.  LADAC or CADAC certification.



Two years related experience preferred.  CPR certified.

Ability to communicate effectively through spoken word and in writing

Must possess knowledge and skills necessary to interact compassionately and appropriately with patients and their families on a regular basis.



The Activities Therapist must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients.  The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span, possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status, interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit’s/area’s/department’s policies and procedures.  Required to work weekends, as well as weekdays and some holidays.
