Laurel Ridge Treatment Center is a psychiatric hospital offering a comprehensive continuum of behavioral healthcare services, including acute programs for children, adolescents and adults, and residential treatment for children and adolescents.

The 250-bed, is located on 18 acres in San Antonio, Texas. Living units are located at one end of the campus. The facility includes a school building, gymnasium, recreational facility, playgrounds, swimming pool, ROPES (Reality-Oriented Physical Experiential Situation Course), library, computer lab and dining room. Laurel Ridge Treatment Center currently has a Admission Coordinator (PRN) position available.

POSITION PURPOSE: To receive inquiry calls and assist caller with scheduling of a face-to-face assessment or triage to an appropriate referral in the community. For Residential Coordinator, to compile all clinical and meet individual contract requirements prior to assessment and admission. To assess or ensure assessment by a qualified mental health professional of patients who present for assessment. To screen for medical and behavioral emergency conditions. To perform assessment of behavioral healthcare needs and coordinate the clinical team effort to ensure that these needs are met either at Laurel Ridge or another appropriate provider in the community. To complete the administrative process of admission and pre-authorization of care with external payers.


1. Receives all referral/inquiry calls and responds to request for information on programs and services and requests for assessment or tour of residential facility.
2. Performs assessments and medical screenings.
3. Collaborates with clinical referral sources, families, doctors, agencies and other callers to ensure assessment or admission is coordinated as smoothly as possible.
4. Aids referral sources, families or caller in triage to services in the community when Laurel Ridge does not meet the assessed or stated needs.
5. Informs every voluntary patient in language they can understand of their legal rights as patients prior to admission. Informs every involuntary patient of his or her legal rights within twenty-four hours of admission.
6. Collaborates with Business Office staff to ensure that payer information is obtained and verified and that financial information as to the patient share of cost is provided.
7. Completes the administrative paperwork, including consent and releases to insure that patients are fully informed during the admission process.
8. Expert in MS4/Midas and responsible for ensuring 100% entry of all calls and admissions. Provides director with statistical reports and suggests measures to improve the delivery and utilization of care and to evaluate the effectiveness of these.
9. Compiles and maintains community resources for outside referrals to all levels of care including support groups, other acute and residential facilities, and resources for clients with limited resources.
10. Expert in documentation, communication, teamwork, and customer service. Advocates for internal and external customers including the client, family, physician, treatment team and managed care organization.

CUSTOMERS SERVED: External customers include patients, potential patients, families, managed care organizations and referral sources. Internal customers including marketing, care managers, medical staff and the treatment team.



The following are the job requirements for the Admission Coordinator position:

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of psychiatric behavioral health diagnostic criteria (DSM IV), quality assessment skills, including listening and writing legibly, ability to provide customer service in a caring way, even in a high stress environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

EDUCATION: Masters Degree in a mental health field plus 1 year of experience is the minimum for RTC Admissions Coordinators. For Acute Admissions Coordinators either a Master’s Degree in a mental health field (along with licensure) or graduate of an accredited nursing school.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: For acute admissions coordinators, a Texas license as an LPCI, LPC, LMSW or LCSW is required.

EXPERIENCE: 2 years mental health experience.

* Position requires irregular hours and weekend hours.

HOURS OF WORK:  PRN Status - schedule hours will be 3 pm to 11 pm.
