Position Summary:

Austin Oaks Hospital is seeking qualified candidates for ADMISSIONS PRN MENTAL HEALTH TECH opportunities.   

AUSTIN OAKS HOSPITAL provides acute inpatient psychiatric services for Adults, Adolescents, and Children. The 13-acre, oak-lined campus in South Austin also includes outpatient services for adolescents and adults.

Responsibilities include:
To follow the instructions of the nursing staff in the direct supervision of assigned patients.
To ensure patient safety.
To assist with milieu management.
To respond to crisis situations.
To cooperate with the implementation of Nursing Department policies and procedures.

Requirements

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Ability to consistently fulfill responsibilities and complete assignments. Skill in performing vital sign checks. Knowledge of patient rights. Skill in developing therapeutic relationships with patients and cooperative / effective relationships with nurses and other MHTs. Ability to write legibly. Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, patients, and visitors.

EDUCATION:
Required: High School Diploma or GED
Preferred Some college

CERTIFICATION:
Current CPR or ability to pass CPR training during initial employment period.

EXPERIENCE:
Required: None
Preferred: One year inpatient psychiatric work experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Physically fit.  Full range of body motion. Ability to safely transfer patients. Manual and finger dexterity. Hand-eye coordination. Ability to run. Ability to restrain patients weighing up to 250 pounds. Ability to lift, carry, and/or lower items weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Ability to stand and walk 6+ hours per day, frequent bending, stooping and reaching to check or move equipment. Hearing and vision sufficient to perform essential functions. Emotional stability necessary to perform essential functions.
