Position Description

The Agile Coach will work with multiple teams with varying levels of Agile maturity in both IT development projects and non-IT projects. This particular position will focus nearly exclusively on a non-IT/non-development project and an Agile approach to Program Management Office (PMO) objectives as well as strategic objectives within the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Quality Payment Program (QPP).
 
This person should be able to continuously improve and promote Agile practices in a distributed PMO team. The Agile Coach will work daily with Program Managers, CMS Senior Leaders and others responsible for Agile adoption and execution.
 
The Agile Coach will at times act as an Agile specialist. That is, this person should not only know the theory, but be able to implement and execute Agile best practices.
 
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Identify process improvement measures that will result in increased productivity and measurable quality by adhering to Agile best practices
  • Collaborate with the Optum Agile Community to develop processes, training material, and tools suitable for distributed PMO Agile teams.
  • Train and coach both internal and external customer teams on the best practices and culture of the Agile community.
  • Ensure PMO strategic objectives are met by utilizing tools and processes to capture relevant metrics for monitoring productivity, efficiency, and predictability
  • Review the project and identify gaps and area of improvement.
  • Facilitate all Scrum ceremonies and running interventions to coach and guide the team in application of Agile principles.
  • Provide hands-on support to scrum teams by assisting scrum masters with day-to-day activities such as grooming sessions, daily scrum meetings, and retrospective meetings to name a few
  • Provide ongoing training sessions to new and existing team members in the best practices of Agile methodology
  • Utilize JIRA, Confluence, and HipChat as well as other common tools to augment project related Agile activities.
  • Prepare a variety of communication artifacts related to the Agile practice, progress and plans.
  • Develop and deliver presentations to various levels of stakeholders and facilitate working sessions to identify resolutions to impediments to continuous Agile improvement
Required Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of IT/business solutions experience
  • 3+ years of Agile Coaching and training experience
  • Experience introducing and leading implementations of Agile principles, values, and best practices including (Scrum, Kanban, Lean, and XP) into an organization that has no former Agile experience
  • Demonstrated experience with meeting facilitation, training, and negotiation.
  • Hands-on experience using JIRA, Confluence, and HipChat as well as other common tools used in the Agile community
  • Extensive understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and how to the Agile methodology
  • Must be passionate about conducting presentations to large and small groups
  • Strong written/oral communication skills and very adept at developing training materials and slide decks for presentations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified as either a PMI Agile Certified Practitioner, CSM, CSPO, or Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) Program Consultant (SPC)
  • CMS/Healthcare IT Experience
