Skywood Recovery Center is a residential treatment facility offering integrated treatment for addiction and mental health conditions. Skywood Recovery provides individual and group therapy, experiential therapy, equine and art therapy, and yoga. Located in Augusta, MI, a convenient drive from Kalamazoo and Lansing, MI, the campus offers a restorative environment with opportunity to enjoy the outdoors.

Position Summary

Maintains milieu according to program schedule, monitors and provides care for patients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures program schedule is maintained.

  • Assists patients with self-care and other living skills.

  • Maintains cleanliness, assist patients to develop appropriate cleaning skills by role modeling.

  • Directly performs daily living maintenance responsibilities.

  • Completes room checks, safety checks and patient supervision checks as directed.

  • Ensures orientation of new patients immediately upon admission.

  • Conducts psycho-educational groups with patients.

  • Utilizes motivational interviewing and patient-centered techniques when assisting patients.

  • Provides empathic, supportive approach to all patient interactions by acting as a sounding board for the individual.Confrontation is not used.

  • Obtains all medications from consumer at intake and secures according to policy.

  • Employs de-escalation techniques.

  • Utilizes local crisis response plan in case of emergency psychiatric emergency (i.e. suicidal/homicidal ideation or threats).

  • Documents according to periodicity and content requirements.

  • Conducts safety drills as described in FRN protocol.

  • Performs responsibilities according to guidelines, and applies performance feedback.

  • Participates in staff meetings.

  • Participates in training and meets FRN and licensure expectations related to training.

  • Performs all other duties as required or assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to inspire patient confidence in the FRN Staff and the FRN Model of Treatment.
  • Ability to consistently demonstrate through conduct and communications the stability required to effectively assist patients and their family members through the FRN Model of Treatment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
  • Must have high level of interpersonal skills. Position continually requires demonstrated poise, professionalism, tact and diplomacy.
  • Must have general knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing and spreadsheets (MS Word, Excel).

  • Understanding of diverse cultures and gender specific issues and the ability to incorporate needs of gender and culturally diverse groups into the organization.

  • Understands need for and maintains appropriate confidentiality at all times when interacting with patients, residents, families, visitors, referral sources and all other contacts.

 

Job Requirements

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or GED required.

  • Minimum 1 year experience working with dually diagnosed individuals preferred.

  • CPR certification (or willing to obtain CPR training and certification).

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Sits, stands, walks, and moves intermittently during work hours.

  • Must be able to lift, push, pull and/or move up to 60 pounds.

  • Must be able to move from building to building in possible extreme weather conditions.

  • Ability to be physically mobile, climb stairs, traverse the campus on uneven, hilly terrain.

  • Position requires some work on the computer requiring manual dexterity and visual acuity.

  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule.

  • A current, valid driver’s license and a clean driving record is required for use of company vehicles and occasional business travel.

  • Due to the 24/7 operational demands, must be available after normal working hours and on holidays to manage emergencies that may arise.
