Description
The Application Engineer I is responsible for supporting multiple Engineering teams by enabling, assisting, or otherwise delivering capabilities that allow our applications to operate at peak performance. The Engineer is responsible for gathering, interpreting and presenting various system and health metrics as part of a continuous improvement effort. Based on those metrics, the Engineer will develop processes or plans along with the supported teams to be implement and measured for improvement. This Engineer must work effectively in a fast-paced environment using excellent communication skills, both with team members and business contacts. The individual works closely with customers to gather and understand requirements, and configure systems (monitoring, security, alerting, etc) to ensure the customer’s needs are met. This engineer must be able to work with minimal supervision on multiple concurrent complex projects and can coordinate work of others.
Responsibilities
  • Participate in the design and implementation of new or changing systems based on customer needs and internal guidelines
  • Analyze and configure or coordinate appropriate monitoring based on application requirements, including security scanning, performance and availability monitoring
  • Work with architecture and development teams to establish platform standards & patterns
  • Ensure proper system standards through monitoring of health, performance, and capacity planning of Platforms & Applications.
  • Share knowledge by effectively documenting work and processes
  • Coordinate issue tracking, resolution and notification
  • Proactively generate solutions for managing a large system base
  • Respond quickly, effectively and take responsibility for production incidents through resolution.
  • Interact with hardware, software and services vendors to ensure timely resolution to any issues
  • Manage ticket entry, escalation, and dispatch in ServiceNow, Bugzilla, Rally and associated systems
  • Participate in on-call rotation of 24x7 support and be flexible in availability as needed
  • Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of the assigned application(s), functional area(s) or project(s)
  • Track record of collaboration with and management of technical SMEs (subject matter experts)

Qualifications

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent industry experience
  • Experience using .NET and related Programming Concepts is a plus
  • Knowledge of Powershell, Splunk, XML, SQL is a plus
  • Experience with Monitoring Suites like Dynatrace/Gomez, New Relic, and/or AppDynamics
  • Experience working with cloud based applications (preferably AWS applications) is a plus
  • Application architecture and development experience is a plus
  • Ability to work with minimal direction, yet also able to work in team environment.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience in support of platforms and web applications is a plus
  • Experience with security and network/distributed computing concepts is a plus
