We are the concentrate team in PepsiCo (PGCS) working across the Beverage, Nutrition and Snacks categories to deliver concentrate for many of PepsiCos mega brands including Gatorade, 7Up and Pepsi. The role is based in our Little Island plant which is a critical component in our Concentrate manufacturing network. Applications are now invited for role of Apprentice Mechanical Fitter for our new 4 year SOLAS Approved Apprenticeship Program.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity of achieving a qualification for a rewarding and interesting career while working in a modern manufacturing environment.

The role of the apprentice electrician will involve assisting the Maintenance Team in their day to day duties, attending all SOLAS required training programmes and completing the craft training curriculum. During the apprenticeship, PepsiCo will provide the opportunities to learn the required range of work and will train and assess the apprentice in the skills, knowledge and competence as specified in the craft curriculum.

The role is based in Little Island and will report to the Maintenance Team Leader.
What does an apprentice mechanical fitter do?
An apprentice mechanical fitter is involved in fitting and assembling parts and sub-assemblies made from metal and other materials to make production machinery and other equipment, working from detailed drawings or specifications using hand and machine tools and precision measuring instruments.
The work of mechanical fitters falls into three main areas:

  • marking out the work to be done
  • assembling and installing machines
  • maintaining and repairing them.
As an apprentice mechanical fitter you must be able to:
  • mark the shape and dimensions of a part to be machined by studying blueprints and using measuring instruments;
  • assemble and fit machined parts using drill holes and tap threads, if necessary, for bolting parts together;
  • check tightness of joints and operation of moving parts, and file or chisel parts to make final adjustments if the fit is not perfect;
  • cut, thread, bend and install hydraulic and pneumatic pipes and lines
  • clean and lubricate assembled articles;
  • shrink-fit parts during assembly using oxy-acetylene torches and presses, dry ice and carbon dioxide freezing;
  • manufacture, repair and fault-find hydraulic and pneumatic equipment;
  • operate powered machines that may be manually or computer controlled;
  • erect machinery and equipment on site;
  • inspect machinery regularly and make any adjustments or repairs needed by removing any worn or damaged parts to install replacements, by sending a damaged part to the machine shop for repair or by doing the repair work themselves.


Candidate Profile
The candidate entry requirements will:

Leaving Certificate successful completed with 5 ordinary level subjects as a minimum requirement to include:

  • Grade B or more in at least 1 of the following Ordinary Level subjects
  • Any practical subject Engineering/Technology/Construction Studies/Physics
  • Grade C or more in Ordinary Level Maths/Applied Maths

The Candidate attributes required

  • Must have excellent written, verbal and numerical skills.
  • Strong problem solving ability.
  • Interest and aptitude in using equipment and tools to perform tasks requiring precision.
  • Ability to demonstrate agility & manual dexterity.
  • Desire to keep up to date with changing technology.
  • Ability to follow routine procedures for scheduled maintenance
