Unit Description

Sodexo Corporate Services is seeking an Area General Manager to lead three different food service accounts (each with multiple locations) in the western Michigan Area to include Caledonia (next to Grand Rapids), Freemont and Galesburg / Marshall.  This leader will office out of one of the three accounts and will direct seven Chef Managers and 50 frontline (hourly), Sodexo-paid, union and non-union employees, throughout the seven different locations.

This position will be responsible for:


  • Total budget management including all fiscal responsibility (Overall financials for a combination of P&L and subsidy accounts)
  • Building and developing the team of Chef Mangers and frontline employees
  • Teaching and developing managers specifically in financials and managing expenses
  • Growing relationships with key client contacts as well as collaborating with the client and Sodexo management team on achieving annual operational projects and goals
  • Ensuring compliance to food safety, sanitation and overall work place safety standards

  • A hands-on approach
  • Experience in a union environment
  • Prior total fiscal accountability including budget forecasting
  • Proven ability to control food and labor cost within the department
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Ability to successfully lead a team while fostering strong client and customer relationships
  • Ability to manage and execute multiple priorities, and will ideally have a project management experience

Position Summary

Functions as the in-unit leader for multiple accounts and/or contracts within a defined geography. Single point of contact and/or client liaison in support of a multi-site.
Key Duties
- Monitors operations by planned and unplanned visits to each operating account of the system to plan projects, implement new processes, client interactions, and new technology to ensure sufficient resources.

-  Develops business plan and budget w/each account GM that supports the System and District goals – Reviews and analyzes financial statements and data and other financial information to ensure attainment of financial goals for both the client and Sodexo.

-  Central Point of Contact for Client Liaison promoting a solid business partnership - assists in contract negotiations for the system.

- Maintains Quality & Company Standards – reviews and maintains reports to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and Sodexo / System Client(s) policies and procedures.

- Responsible for system succession planning/employee development/diversity initiatives/training/constructive counseling. Promotes and supports workplace diversity initiatives.

- Provides strategic leadership to the respective units within the system to maintain client satisfaction and retention

Qualifications & Requirements

Basic Education Requirement - Bachelor’s Degree
Basic Management Experience - 5 years
Basic Functional Experience - 5 years
