Position Summary:

Cedar Hills Hospital - located just 15 minutes from downtown Portland - is an 89-bed, private psychiatric hospital specializing in mental health and chemical dependency care. We provide a wide range of services and programs that offer evidence-based treatment proven to have positive outcomes for our patients. Our inpatient and outpatient services offer supportive and compassionate care through specialty programs that are tailored to meet the needs of our patients.

The Inpatient Assessment Counselor oversees the assessment, referral and admission activities during the assigned shift. Candidates’ responsibilities include: providing telephonic and in person risk assessment and crisis intervention; initial contact with referral sources and potential patients; coordinating the referral and intake process, determining the appropriate level of care and maintaining all associated communications. Counselors also complete admission pre-certifications.

Hours: This is a PRN “on call,” position, with a minimum of 20 hours per week. Days and times are negotiable upon hire, but will include some afternoons and evenings. There will be a requirement of working a minimum of two shifts on a week-end day (Saturday or Sunday)
each month.

Education: Registered Nurse or Master's Degree in a human relations field.

Experience: One (1) year of related experience, with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques with understanding of mental illness, preferred. Minimally two or more years of experience in intake assessment activities within a mental health setting preferred.

Additional Requirements: Working knowledge of the DSM-IV, DSM V and the Mental Status Exam, as well as ASAM. Working knowledge of the Addiction and Recovery field. Ability to multi-task in a fast pace office arranging for admission of patients, including alerting the business office staff to begin the verification of benefits, initiating calls to physicians and other related tasks as directed by the Case Manager.

Training: Successful completion of CPR certification, Company provided training including Crisis Management and Service Excellence training must occur within 90 days of employment.
