Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:  The RN is responsible for screening and implementing the admissions process of incoming patients into the facility, and to assist in implementation of the nursing process in all aspects of patient care for all patient populations including geo-psych, chemically dependent adults and youth, adult psych and  adolescents  as needed.  Assures a comprehensive approach to patient care by applying appropriate theories to psychiatric nursing practice for all patients.

All qualified candidates must have be a Licensed Registered Nurse within the State of Florida and have a minimum of an Associates Degree in Nursing, but prefer a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.  Also must have one year nursing experience, preferably in psychiatric or addictions and preferably some experience with intake.

DUTIES AND EXPECTATIONS

  • The admission nurse will screen new patients at the point of entry. This screening will include both psychiatric and physical, current status and patient‘s needs.

  • The admission nurse wills asses the patient for medical clearance according to facilities policy and procedure.

  • The admission nurse will communicate all information to the designated Charge nurse on the designated unit.

  • The admission nurse will communicate all unusual information to the Nurse Leader on site.

  • The admission nurse will complete the comprehensive nursing assessment and initiate nursing intervention which will include the initial treatment plan.

  • Communicate via the telephone

  • Data entry into the computer

  • Sit for long periods of time

  • Maneuver to the assessment rooms and back to the units

  • Lift up to 20 pounds

  • Complete admission paperwork

  • Fast pace environment

  • Critical thinking

  • Dealing with acute mental health patients

  • Critical thinking in assessing medical conditions of patients

    STAFF DEVELOPMENT REQUIREMENTS:

    Employee must participate in the General Employee Orientation and Department/Job Orientation including competencies required for their position.  Must satisfactorily complete all required trainings assigned to their position and ensure that their employee health file is satisfactorily maintained including annual TB testing.  Must be certified in Handle With Care and CPR.
