The Assistant Director, Health Information Management plans, organizes, and controls the activities of the Health Information Management (HIM) Department.  Manages the HIM Department staff.  Collaborates with the Director on the implementation of the hospital’s electronic medical record (EMR) system.  Assures compliance with federal law, state law, and the Conditions of Participation for Hospitals as it relates to the management of health information and the operation of the hospital.  Participates in, and complies with, all accrediting body standards.
 
This position will be working onsite at Lenox Hills Hospital, Monday-Friday 8:00AM-4:30PM
 
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Manages the activities of the HIM Department to include record pick up, scanning preparation, chart analysis, deficiency management, medical transcription, release of information, and ongoing record maintenance
  • Supports the coding function by assuring timely processing and completion of discharged records
  • Manages assigned HIM Department staff by:
    • Selecting staff that has the qualifications and experience to perform an assigned job
    • Orienting and mentoring staff to assure high levels of performance
    • Providing ongoing and annual feedback on performance
    • Assuring adequate coverage at all times
  • Oversee the Copy Service and the ROI Area
  • Oversee the DNFB Management Reports and follow up
  • Oversee the Tumor Registry
  • Implements the EMR system, including maintaining data standards, quality, and documentation procedures
  • Interacts with systems support staff to troubleshoot and resolve technical problems related to HIM operational systems
  • Monitors the Delinquent Chart Management system; evaluates the delinquent chart count; reports findings to senior leadership and the medical staff; recommends and implements corrective actions to keep the numbers under a predefined threshold
  • Maintains accurate data to support the physician suspension process
  • Builds and maintains productive inter- and intra-departmental work relationships to support the hospital, and assure optimal operations
  • Ensures the development, update, and maintenance of departmental policies and procedures
  • Performs related duties, as required
