Newport News Behavioral Health Center is a residential and acute program, for males and females ages 8-21, consist of a cognitive behavioral treatment model that encourages youth to safely explore thoughts and feelings related to the development of positive and desirable behavior within their homes and communities. Our programs have been designed to provide each individual resident quality mental health treatment in a safe therapeutic environment.

It is the mission of Newport News Behavioral Health Center to promote recovery from the effects of abuse, addiction and other behavioral issues through specialized treatment interventions provided by a community of caring professionals.

Newport News Behavioral Health Center Acute Care Services has an excellent career opportunity for an experienced Assistant Education Director to join our team of dedicated professionals.

The candidate selected will be responsible for the following:

Provides assistance with leadership of the Academy, supervision of teaching staff, and training. Sets a high example of school and facility standards.

Demonstrates a proactive attitude; tries to remedy issues before problems occur.

Assists to recruit/retain high quality staff; prioritizes/promotes a positive culture.

Coordinates, plans, evaluates, and delivers ongoing educational services with the director in provision and promotion of high standards of quality and of community engagement, including career services.

Monitors ongoing accreditation and licensing compliance for the school.

Audits student files and education components of all resident clinical records.

Creates/updates IIPs. Conducts initial meeting as a part of the MTP process.

Actively pursues education records from school divisions within 7 business days; develops IIPs for students in regular education within 10 days of admission and prior to MTP meetings using available student information, including parent input.

Completes 12-month, post discharge surveys for all RTC residents and maintains a spreadsheet of data for quarterly and annual reports.

Serves on a VAISEF committee, fulfilling VAISEF committee duties. Participates in VAISEF events, as directed. Disseminates VAISEF information, as needed.

Submit UHS Monthly Outcomes Report Card to corporate, monthly by the 9th.

Assists with the development, implementation, and evaluation of facility policies regarding education services, and also updates annual policies, as directed.

Attends department meetings, in-service trainings, Rundown, and treatment plan meetings, monitoring quality and tracking completion of treatment team reports.

Facilities business development through community engagement, providing tours, and building a positive, public image of NNBHC-Academy at Lee Hall.

Fulfills attendance requirements and mandatory facility trainings. Adheres to policy and procedures and facility safety practices. Serves as directed as a department representative on facility committees.

Ensures/models Service Excellence and respectful, professionalism as a face of the leadership of the Education Department within the facility and to the public.

Job Requirements

Master’s Degree in Education.  Current Virginia teaching license. Special Education or administrative certification preferred.  Minimum 5 years classroom experience as well as 3 years of supervisory experience preferred. Ability to effectively communicate with school personnel, educational staff, and interdisciplinary teams.  Knowledgeable of residential treatment center or alternative school programs, IEPs, state and federal regulations, and modifications of curriculum to serve students with psychiatric needs.
