The Chemistry Data Management role has accountability for chemistry data solutions and services to the Medicinal Sciences line.

The Chemistry Data Management role will ensure the successful strategy, design, development and delivery of chemistry data workflow and services to the Medicinal Sciences line to ensure that the Chemistry data integrity is ensured, supporting high quality decisions in that line. This includes understanding chemistry data workflow and curation needs, supporting integration of chemistry data from external sources, and enabling chemistry data registration in support of strategic Medicinal Sciences collaborations with external partners.

Required in this role is a person who combines a strong customer focus with excellent and existing knowledge of the internal chemistry systems and data. The individual will need to be entrepreneurial, innovative, adaptable and creative with an innate ability to understand and seek out new opportunities to support the science and an ability to influence and leverage the broader Business Technology organization to support the needs of Medicinal Sciences.


This role is responsible for ensuring global chemistry data activities for Medicinal Sciences. It encompasses the following main areas of activity:

+ Responsible for assisting with the execution of timely and accurate chemistry curations submitted via HelpDesk or by other BT-supported application mechanisms.

+ Working with Business Partners - builds strong relationships with clients to provide support and understand their workflow requirements.

+ Assist with chemistry data integration and management efforts as part of external collaboration agreements, liasing with appropriate scientific, business development, legal and business technology colleagues as needed.

+ Understands all or most scientific workflow aspects within a business function.

+ Aligns BT services with current and future needs of the business and its customers while improving quality of services delivered.

+ Understands and analyzes business problems and opportunities in the context of the business workflows and recommends and creates solutions that enable the organization to achieve its goals.

+ Works as a liaison among stakeholders in order to elicit, analyze, document, communicate, and validate business workflow needs and requirements for changes.

+ Assists in the investigation and resolution of problems relating to applications. Assists with specified maintenance procedures.

+ Can quickly find common ground and solve problems for the good of all; can represent his/her own interests and yet be fair to other groups; can solve problems with peers with a minimum of noise; is seen as a team player and is cooperative; easily gains trust and support of peers; encourages collaboration; can be candid with peers.

+ A college degree in Chemistry, computer science or science field is required. Advanced degree desired.

Desired Experience

+ 3 or more years of experience in similar roles in technology or science based organizations

+ Experience in a Chemistry laboratory environment using scientific applications for Chemistry in a research environment

+ Experience with cheminformatics tools such as ChemDraw and Pipeline Pilot.

+ Experience with Oracle Databases and SQL, PL/SQL languages

+ Structural data curation experience

+ Knowledge of basic concepts in pharmaceutical research

+ Evidence of outstanding performance in previous roles

+ Demonstrated ability in delivering technology solutions in a dynamic environment while managing customer expectations and relationships.

+ Demonstrated experience developing IT solutions

+ Strong technical, analytical, and problem solving skills

+ Strong communication abilities

+ Strong customer relationship building abilities

+ Ability to relate technology solutions to scientific problems
