Optum payer consulting is looking to expand their offerings within their Networks and Population Health pillar and is looking for a senior clinical resource to support the expected growth of population health management consulting. This role will also potentially support other related areas, as needed, such as quality, compliance and payer-provider collaborations / ACO models. This resource will lead the delivery of and provide SME support for complex engagements. In addition, this resource will also support business development activities, such as new pursuits and support of offering research and development, and have operational leadership duties within the Population Health Management Consulting practice.

 

You'll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.

 

**Travel is typical for this role and our associates leave out early Monday and return late on Thursday. Location of residence is flexible for this role; however, travel is a requirement

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Business Development (~25% Time Allocation):
    • Define the business development strategy for a subset of the practice, as required
    • Own and manage sales accounts, leads, pursuits, and proposals
    • Identify and own the development of new NPH consulting solutions that will be brought to market, leveraging research and internal resources
    • Effectively build and maintain relationships with internal and external clients
    • Identify opportunities for sales and business development collaboration with other Optum business segments
    • Develop thought leadership and share point of view in various mediums
  • Program Delivery and Oversight (~75% Time Allocation):
    • Direct responsibility for the delivery oversight of large scale program execution. Large scale programs are defined as high cost, high complexity and/or high risk
    • Facilitate development of business segment and enterprise level planning and program objective setting
    • Participate in senior level program funding and prioritization decision processes
    • Provide strategic input to the development of program roadmap and timelines 
    • Create a team oriented work climate that enables professional development and encourages creative solutions and strategies
    • Support the management of resources within programs
    • Support program communication plan and execution
    • Require that quality assurance methods are implemented within the program
    • Provide status updates and review of programs to senior leadership
    • Provide coaching and mentoring of project team with the goal of developing and retaining talent within the organization

Required Qualifications

  • Clinical degree is required e.g., RN, RPN, DNP, MSN, etc.
  • 5+ years enterprise project/program management experience
  • 5+ years’ experience leading large-scale consulting engagements or large internal healthcare projects/programs
  • 15+ years healthcare background with extensive healthcare operations knowledge and experience specifically in population health management including disease, case, transition, and or utilization management
  • Experience developing new business and identifying add-on work
  • Experience writing and executing business plans for new consulting solutions
  • Deep expertise in a number of population health management programs / functions, including Disease Management, Case Management, Utilization Management, Transition Management, Wellness, etc.
  • Understanding of provider-embedded and led population health models
  • Ability to travel up to 80% 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree in computer or business related field
  • Experience with population health management on provider (clinic, hospital) side
  • Experience in population health management related areas if preferred, e.g. network management, value based care, quality, compliance, provider engagement, etc.
  • 5+ years working in a Big 5 or large consulting organization
  • Candidates located near Minneapolis, MN or Hartford, CT
  • Experience leading a team of direct reports
