Position Description

National MedTrans is a transportation benefit management company, and a recent UHC acquisition.  Transportation benefit accounting is joining the Specialty Benefits Accounting Team within the UHC Controllership organization, and is in need of a leader for its accounting team.  The successful candidate will be a key member of this team and possess leadership and teaching qualities, wants to develop those around them, enjoys opportunities for process improvement and is not afraid to roll up their sleeves and dig in.  Including developing new processes, and working through existing challenges

 

The Associate Director of Accounting will be completely comfortable working with large volumes of data, and is familiar with the concept of data mapping. This person must be a problem solver who can research, and articulate proposed solutions. Presentation and professional writing skills are also necessary for success in this role.

 

The person in this role will lead a team responsible for accounting for transactions across 50+ entities, including eliminations and consolidation. 

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support Operations Leadership in decision making process, including providing financial analysis and pro forma financial statements

  • Support new business development efforts via assisting with RFP pricing, and implementation of internal contracts

  • Ensure appropriateness of payments to transportation providers (ie correct adjudication of amounts due)

  • General oversight of all AR and AP functions for this business segment (via collaboration with others outside of their reporting structure), including monitoring accuracy of provider payments, and of any Aging AR balances, escalating issues as appropriate

  • Oversee the analytics related to intersegment revenue and reimbursement

  • Manage others, including performance reviews and goal setting

  • Manage the month end close accounting process, closing the periods within our standard 3 work day timeline

  • Establish and maintain Internal Control structure and procedures for financial reporting

  • Oversee the team’s quarterly analytic packages presentations, explaining changes in business and the impacts on financial results

  • Find and execute opportunities to improve efficiency surrounding all accounting processes

  • The successful candidate will also play a role in system enhancements currently underway, as well as planned in the near future.  This may include, developing requirements, test case compilation and User Acceptance Testing execution

  • Provide operational and technical accounting expertise to ensure compliance with GAAP, Company policies, rules, regulation and laws

  • Support various special projects as required

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree in Business Administration, Finance or Accounting

  • 7+ years demonstrated progression in financial reporting and analysis

  • 3+ years of supervisory experience

  • Advanced level of working knowledge of GAAP; ability to effectively use accounting knowledge to collaborate with varying levels of employees and senior management to drive sound business decisions

  • Expert level of proficiency with Excel (require advanced)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Advanced analytical and information gathering skills; ability to evaluate and prioritize extensive detailed data, including general exposure to data warehouses and queries for data retrieval

  • Prior experience successfully managing multiple requests, assessing priorities and achieving solutions under deadlines

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Insurance Industry Experience
  • Public Accounting Experience
  • CPA/CMA or other equivalent licensure or certification
