The Optum Senior Privacy Investigator will be responsible for investigating potential Privacy issues spanning all Optum businesses.  The Investigator will assess the initial allegations; ascertain and interview witnesses; review all applicable documents, including all applicable policy or regulatory / legal requirements in place; will assess the facts pursuant to HIPAA, state and federal law; conduct a risk assessment of the matter / determine merit, and log and track written summaries at the conclusion of the investigation into Optum’s Privacy Incident Management database.

 

This individual will often work with Legal and business leadership throughout the course of the investigation. This investigator will also interact with other UHG Enterprise Privacy partners, as well as periodically work with Human Relations and Information Risk Management.

 

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Handling a high volume of cases
  • Handling matters requiring notification to Health and Human Services, customers / clients, and individually impacted membership
  • Briefing leadership on higher profile investigations
  • Participating in the development of business strategy and remediation
  • Monitor changes to requirements to mitigate risks and achieve compliance
  • Supporting the collection of data for reporting purposes and assisting in reporting efforts
  • Solving unique and complex problems with broad impact on the business
  • Assist in identifying areas wherein Privacy training may be appropriate
  • Provide guidance to business leads on the permissible use and disclosure of patient, member, and customer information
