Description The Gene Therapy Translational Research group is part of Pfizer's Rare Disease Research Unit (RDRU) focused on gene therapy specific platform technologies towards the delivery of IND-approved vectors for testing in clinical trials. The AAV Assay Lead will manage a group of up to 4 lab-based scientists and partner closely with the Pfizer gene therapy group at Bamboo in NC, the RDRU Biology group in Cambridge, and colleagues in many other Pfizer disciplines contributing towards the development of Gene Therapies.

• Manage a group of up to 4 lab-based scientists responsible for overseeing and performing in vitro assays related to delivering AAV gene therapy vectors for testing in clinical trials. Work will include TCID50, RC AAV, NAB, potency, capsid identification, genome identification and other assays. IN addition, the team will be responsible for small scale research vector manufacturing.

• Partner closely with the Pfizer gene therapy groups at Bamboo in Chapel Hill, and RDRU Biology in Cambridge, MA, to progress new gene therapy projects.

• Partner with other disciplines of integrated drug discovery and development, especially assay development, CMC, Drug Safety, Regulatory, and Early Clinical Development, to develop translational preclinical packages for gene therapy clinical candidates.

• Evaluate and engage external collaborations and Contract Research Organizations (CROs).

• Hands on experience with relevant in vivo assays; previous work with viral vectors desirable.


• Ph.D. in the life sciences with >9 years of post-doctoral experience.

• Experience in developing, performing and analyzing AAV assays.

• Evidence of scientific accomplishments in the form of publications and presentations.

• Exceptional communication skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.

• Evidence of mentorship and supervisory experience required.

• Project leadership and project management experience required.

• Scientific background in the area of developing AAV vectors.
