POSITION SUMMARY:

 

The Assistant Director of Nursing assumes twenty-four hour responsibility for management, delivery, and coordination of nursing care in conjunction with the Director of Nursing.  This includes the assessment, planning, provision, and evaluation of patient care and nursing services for nursing units. Consults with the Director of Nursing, staff, physicians, and other members of clinical administration on nursing problems and interpretation of facility policies to ensure that patient’s needs are met. Maintains performance improvement activities within the department(s) and participates in hospital wide PI initiatives. Responsible for mentoring Nursing Supervisors, RNs, LPNs, PTs, and SPTs. Functions as the Infection Control / Employee Health Nurse and is responsible for coordinating the activities of the facility’s infection control program, by assuming direct responsibility for infection surveillance, infection control reporting, and provision of infection control technical support and education for the facility staff. Coordinates the employee immunization program including providing TB screening, influenza immunization and the Hepatitis B series.  Provides coverage
as a nursing supervisor of staff nurse as assigned.

2.      Patient/Staff Education: Demonstrates a commitment to meeting the learning needs of patients, families, and staff. Utilizes appropriate resources to meet those needs and achieve positive patient or Staff outcomes. Assists in creating an environment that promotes educational growth opportunities for nursing peers and colleagues.

3.      Nursing Process: Demonstrates the use of nursing process as a problem-solving model. Demonstrates a mastery of clinical skills related to patient’s mental health and physical health needs

4.      Leadership/Collaboration/Professional Development: Demonstrates respect and understanding for peers and other clinical disciplines and participates as an effective member of the patient care team to formulate an integrated approach to care. Demonstrates leadership behaviors and is committed to the development of self and others. Leads unit staff by example.

5.      Infection Control / Employee Health: Demonstrates the ability to coordinate the activities of the facility’s infection control program, by assuming direct responsibility for infection surveillance, infection control reporting, and provision of infection control technical support and education for the facility staff.  Coordinates the employee immunization program including providing TB screening, influenza immunization and the Hepatitis B series.

 

 

 

Job Requirements

KNOWLEDGE:                       To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each primary responsibility listed above.

 Required Education:            Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing

Required Licensure/             ​Valid MS Nursing License

Certification:                          Current Certification in CPR 

Preferred Certification:         Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse prefferred.

                                                Certification as an Infection Control Practitioner preferred.

Required Experience:           One year of nursing supervisory experience.

Preferred Experience:          One year nursing supervisory experience with six months in a mental health setting.
