Job Description

The Board-Certified Behavior Analyst:

  • Designs, implements, supports, and documents behavioral programs.
  • Leads behavioral assessment.
  • Gathers information at intake regarding preferences and characteristics of behaviors
  • Assembles copies of behavior plans implemented at other settings
  • Developes hypothesis regarding the functions of behaviors
  • Assures that behaviors are tracked accurately on an ongoing basis.
  • Leads the development, evaluation, and documentation of behavior intervention programs.
  • Identifies behavioral interventions
  • Defines behavioral interventions on the treatment plan.
  • Trains and coaches direct care staff in implementation of interventions.
  • Supports therapists in providing parent training.
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge base of age specific interventions for patient populations served.
  • Participates in department and facility Performance Improvement activities.
  • Provides group therapy sessions and be able to effectively manage group process to maximize therapeutic benefits to patients; conducts process and specialty groups as assigned.
  • In addition to direct work with children, families and school representatives, this position requires report writing, attending meetings, staff meetings and regular communication with management/leadership.
  • Assists in appropriate referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community.
  • Floats to other units as needed.

Job Requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE :    Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology/Social Work or Education and a minimum of two (2) years of direct clinical experience in a psychiatric or mental health treatment setting. Licensure in the state of Alaska as a Board Certified Behavior

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on his or her assigned program.  The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the lifespan and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s behavioral requirements relative to his or her age-specific/cognitive needs. Additionally, must be able to perform assignments with minimal supervision; perform concentrated and/or complex mental activity with frequent involvement in complex and/or highly technical situations; have math skills to enable calculation of recipes and diets; work successfully under highly stressful conditions; make sound, independent judgments based on scientific and/or ethical principles; adapt to varying workloads and work assignments on a constant basis; have effective comprehensive reading skills, strong communication skills, written and verbal; and have a working knowledge of computers.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION: Must be able to complete new hire requirements such as State of Alaska Background Check and Drug testing; demonstrate special knowledge, training, and skills specific to age groups, as well as jobs and/or program specific competency within the first three (3) months of training; complete all mandatory in-services annually; and be tested for Tuberculosis with PPD skin test or chest x-ray upon hire and annually thereafter.

GENERAL WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Working conditions for all employees are as follows, but are not limited to a psychiatric hospital setting: risk involved in the event of aggressive patient(s); workload may include day, evening, night, weekend, and/or holiday shifts. Employees may occasionally be exposed to blood borne pathogens and loud noises. Mental demands described herein are representative of those which must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job, but are not limited to the ability to remain calm in stressful environments; and the emotional stability, physical stamina, and agility to handle stress and respond quickly and effectively to emergency situations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Requirements include, but are not limited to: the ability to communicate effectively with employees; the ability to effectively utilize communication equipment; the physical agility to perform dietary work tasks; the ability to read and write; the ability to utilize physical ability for standing or sitting for long periods of time; the ability to occasionally utilize physical ability for fingering or manual dexterity, repetitive finger motion, lifting or exerting up to 50 lbs of force, crouching or stooping and seeing with correction for depth perception; speaking, hearing, emotional stability, physical stamina, and agility to handle stress and respond quickly and effectively to emergency situations.
