Job Description

Job Responsibilities:  

1. Design, implement, support, and document behavioral programs.

2. Lead behavioral assessment.

3. Gathering information at intake regarding preferences and characteristics of behaviors

4. Assembling copies of behavior plans implemented at other settings

5. Developing hypothesis regarding the functions of behaviors

6. Assuring that behaviors are tracked accurately on an ongoing basis.

7. Lead the development, evaluation, and documentation of behavior intervention programs.

8. Identification of behavioral interventions

9. Definition of behavioral interventions on the treatment plan.

10. Training and coaching of direct care staff in implementation of interventions.

11. Support to therapists in providing parent training.

12. Maintains a thorough knowledge base of age specific interventions for patient populations served.

13.  Participates in department and facility Performance Improvement activities.

14.Provide group therapy sessions and be able to effectively manage group process to maximize therapeutic benefits to patients; conducts process and specialty groups as assigned.

15.  In addition to direct work with children, families and school representatives, this position requires report writing, attending meetings, staff     meetings and regular communication with management/leadership.

16. Assists in appropriate referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community.

Job Requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE :    Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology/Social Work  or  Education and a minimum of two (2) years of direct clinical experience in a psychiatric or mental health treatment setting. Licensure in the state of Alaska as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) also required.

Additional Requirements:   Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on his or her assigned program.  The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the lifespan and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s behavioral requirements relative to his or her age-specific/cognitive needs. 


  1. Ability to perform assignments with minimal supervision;
  2. Must be able to perform concentrated and/or complex mental activity with frequent involvement in complex and/or highly technical situations;
  3. Must have math skills to enable calculation of recipes and diets
  4. Ability to work successfully under highly stressful conditions;
  5. Ability to make sound, independent judgments based on scientific and/or ethical principles;
  6. Capability of adapting to varying workloads and work assignments on a constant basis;
  7. Effective comprehensive reading skills, strong communication skills, written and verbal.
  8. Must have a working knowledge of computers.


  • Must be able to complete new hire requirements such as State of Alaska Background Check and Drug Testing.
  • Must be able to demonstrate special training, knowledge and skills specific to age groups, as well as job and/or program specific competency within the first three (3) months of training.
  • Must complete all mandatory in-services annually.
  • Must be tested for Tuberculosis with a PPD skin test or chest x-ray upon hire; PPD skin test required annually or chest x-ray annually thereafter.

GENERAL WORKING ENVIRONMENT:  Working conditions for all employees are as follows, but not limited to a psychiatric hospital setting; some risk involved in the event of aggressive patient(s); work load may include day, evening, night, weekend and/or holiday shifts.  Employees occasionally exposed to blood borne pathogens. 

Mental demands described herein are representative of those which must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job, but are not limited to the ability to remain calm in a stressful environment; and the emotional stability, physical stamina and agility to handle stress and respond quickly and effectively to emergency situations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Requirements include, but are not limited to the ability to communicate effectively with employees; the ability to effectively utilize communication equipment; the physical agility to perform dietary work tasks; the ability to read and write.

  • Must frequently utilize physical ability for standing or sitting for long periods of time.
  • Must occasionally utilize physical ability for fingering or manual dexterity, repetitive finger motion, lifting or exerting force up to 50 lbs., crouching or stooping and seeing with correction for depth perception. 
  • Must regularly utilize physical ability for speaking, hearing, and seeing with correction for close and distance vision, color discrimination, peripheral vision, depth perception and focusing ability.  Speaking and hearing may be necessary for conversing with and assessing employees.
  • Mental demands include but are not limited to emotional stability, physical stamina and agility to handle stress and respond quickly and effectively to emergency situations.
