Job Description

The candidate selected will be responsible for the following:

1) Assists in direct care and management of children and adolescents who have chronic illnesses, neurobehavioral issues or brain injuries.

2) Plan, implement and evaluate group activities.

3) Provide supervision, safety and crisis management for patients.

4) Completes documentation and assists the multi-disciplinary team in the implementation of prescribed treatment regimens.

5) Foster and create positive relationships and communication with team members, patients, their families and visitors.

6) Participates in therapeutic interactions, guidance, support and role modeling while monitoring behavior according to program guidelines.

7) Acts as an advocate in providing safe delivery of care to promote wellness.

8) Maintain compliance with HIPPA regulations, ADA and Joint Commission policies and procedures.

Job Requirements


Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Good verbal and written skills, ability to rotate shifts and units as necessary, and ability to maintain patient confidentiality.  Knowledge of principles of psychology and child growth and development are useful. Limit-setting, responding to children and adolescents in a caring, mature manner, while maintaining professional boundaries necessary. Must consistently exhibit mental and emotional ability to understand and perform the essential functions of the job.



Bachelor’s Degree and/or CNA License.


Two years related experience with adolescents and children or relevant college coursework in a

related field.  Previous experience with emotionally disturbed, mentally retarded, or physically

disabled persons preferred.


Current Virginia driver’s licensure with a good driving record, CPR certification, First Aid


Physical Requirements:  

- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

- 80-90% of the time, the incumbent is standing, walking, kneeling, or reaching while working with patient.

- Requires full range of body motion including handling and physical restraint of patients.

- CPR certification
