Job Description

Join Northwest School of Innovative Learning/Fairfax Behavioral Health today and provide help, hope, and healing. We currently have an available opportunity for a Behavioral Interventional Specialist in our Tacoma, Washington school.

POSTION SUMMARY:
The Behavior Intervention Specialist supports the school by providing a supportive environment where students who have become disruptive to the class or greater community are empowered to work through difficult situations in order to return to class a positive member of the classroom and ultimately in their own home school environment. The Behavior Intervention Specialist works closely with teachers, administrative personnel, therapists, and clinical staff in helping the students to work through their Individualized Education Plan and goals by building the skills required for a successful return to the home school district. As an active member of the treatment team, this position provides continuous individualized tailored student care, observation, interaction, documentation, and role modeling while under the direct supervision of the Supervisor of the program.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

Experience: Previous successful work experience in a similar position preferred or work experience in security or law enforcement dealing on a regular basis with young adults.  Training or experience in drug/alcohol abuse awareness, prevention and control preferred.  Experience with, knowledge of or training in crisis prevention.  Experience with, knowledge of or training in gang intervention preferred.  Training or experience working with diverse racial, ethnic, and cultural groups required.  Ability to work effectively under pressure or in a fast paced environment.

Licensure:   Must maintain a valid Washington State driver's license and good driving record.

Additional Requirements:  Successful completion of CPR certification.  Successful completion of  HWC (Handle with Care) training prior to assisting with a restraining procedure and within 90 days of employment. May be required to work overtime and flexible hours.
