The Payment Integrity Software Engineering team is looking for technologists who are collaborative, self-starters, take ownership, have accountability and drive results. The person will work on applications geared towards strategic initiatives for Public Cloud, APIs and Big Data for all of Optum Product Engineering while advocating and accelerating Agile adoption.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Research, evaluate, and identify alternative approaches to support development needs
  • Recommend, design and code efficient and effective solutions for challenging problems for medium to large work efforts of medium to high complexity
  • Comply with standards and guidelines related to the design, construction, testing, and deployment activities within the Delivery Management environments
  • Demonstrate collaborative skills working within a project team of diverse skills
  • Bring strong communication skills including oral, written and presentation skills plus creativity, and problem solving skills to a challenging environment
  • Provide technical oversight to multiple development initiatives
  • Provide guidance and direction to less-seasoned staff
  • Conduct technical trainings to broader technical audience
  • Present and socialize business segment services and capabilities to senior leadership

Required Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience building high volume Java applications using relational and/or NoSQL databases
  • 2+ years of experience with complex shell scripting such as Bash or Python
  • 1+ year of experience in building distributed batch and/or streaming data solutions using Hadoop, HBase, Hive, Spark, Storm, Kafka, Kafka Streams, StreamSets, etc.
  • Meaningful production Public Cloud experience (Azure, AWS, etc.) having built and deployed application code into these Cloud environments using Dev/Ops practices
  • Develop code meeting 100 percent of technical specifications and business requirements according to the established designs
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in troubleshooting performance issues in enterprise scale distributed systems
  • Experience with multiple file structures and programming languages/paradigms
  • Thorough understanding of physical, virtual, and containerized technology infrastructure in a Dev/Ops context including building solutions in a hosting-agnostic and scale-agnostic manner
  • Experience working in an Engineering Culture that values Dev/Ops, Agile, automated developer testing/mocking (e.g. JUnit, Moquito), and build-measure-learn cycles
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, Gradle, Maven, GitHub, and Docker
  • Healthcare domain background
