As Optum Big Data Platform (OBDP) Business Product Owner, you will lead and influence several transformations in progress.  First, transforming from a program/project IT driven org, to a product management led agile software engineering culture and product line.  Second, transforming from a technology led to business value led mindset and capabilities.  Third, transforming from cost and schedule driven to LOB market strategy led and obsessed with customer satisfaction, quality and competitive business value.   You will lead others largely by influence not hierarchy, and prove your value through the demonstrated business value and customer success of the OBDP, as a consequence of the transformations described above.  A hands on leader, you’ll create as many if not more deliverables than your team, learn as much as you teach, and inspire far more than you command.  An agile servant leader is unafraid of any of these, and gets a full sense of accomplishment from enabling and inspiring the team to succeed as well as seeing business results.
 
Primary Responsibilities:  
  • Lead OBDP product strategy, synthesizing LOB market big data needs and competitive analysis and formulating product direction and roadmaps
  • Serve as a subject matter expert to internal stakeholders on specific big data marketplace and IT topics / issues - collaborate with internal leaders and external business partners to gain understanding of their business needs and adapt product strategy and business plans and priorities to address business and operational challenges
  • Lead big data engineering change and innovation - pursue opportunities to adopt new technologies and drive OBDP adoption to enhance business outcomes - drive and mange high-quality execution across organizational lines
  • Communicate product strategy, business value and customer success with impact.  Create effective product collateral, case studies, ROI stories, and win flashes.  Influence and negotiate effectively with all internal and external stakeholders to achieve win-win solutions that advance organizational goals
  • Provide agile servant leadership, guidance, team direction, problem resolution and accountability for the performance of products, process and people, including managers and/or senior level professional staff
  • Leverage diversity and inclusion to bring in the right talent, drive employee engagement and foster teamwork and collaboration.  Coach and grow those around you, and yourself in the process
  • Manage and ensure compliance with product management, big data engineering & analytics, software engineering, and IT structures/processes/technologies.  Continuously learn, prove out, and adopt related emerging best practices
  • Grow and maintain knowledge of and leverage product management, big data engineering & analytics, software engineering, and IT industry/marketplace technologies and trends
  • Apply financial knowledge to influence pricing, business performance, forecasting and financial planning activities
  • When requested, participate in vendor contract negotiations to ensure optimal service delivery and cost controls (e.g., SLAs, vendor discounts) and monitor/manage vendor performance to ensure compliance with contract terms/conditions and deliverables
  • Demonstrate integrity and ethical behavior by complying with applicable laws, regulations and policies and requiring the same from others.  This is foundational to Our United Culture and nonnegotiable
  • This high performing individual must have experience in IT, Big Data Product Management in a matrix organization.
