The Big Data Software Engineer is responsible for the development of high performance, distributed computing tasks using Big Data technologies such as Hadoop, NoSQL and others. This position will use Big Data programming languages and technology, write code, complete programming and documentation, and perform testing and debugging of applications. They will also analyze, design, program, debug and modify software and/or new products used in large scale analytics and visualization solutions. Position will interact with data scientists and industry experts to understand how data needs to be converted, loaded and presented.

Specifically, this Big Data Software Engineer provides the backbone (the data and data platform) for the team as well as for the enterprise. This position helps to derive valuable insights and drive smart business decisions across AT&T. Additional responsibilities include the following:

+ Works with the raw data, cleanses it and finally polishes it to the format where it can be consumed by Data Scientists to create critical insights

+ Assists with ad-hoc requests coming from business partners. These can be simple statistics or complex operations

+ Productionalizes machine learning prototypes developed by data scientists


+ Expert level competency with most of the following: SQL/Hive, Hadoop, a JVM language (Scala, Java), Spark, Map/Reduce, Python, and Unix environments. In addition, the candidate must also have the ability to mentor and develop others in these technologies.

+ Strong communication and presentation skills are required to effectively convey relevant insights to the teams

+ Ability to analyze, implement, and optimize the performance of engineered artifacts

Optional/nice to have:

+ Familiarity with machine learning in R, Python, or Spark (using libraries such as scikit-learn, MLlib, TensorFlow)

+ Familiarity with HDFS-based computing frameworks including Pig and STORM

+ Ability to prototype visualizations, user interfaces, or dashboards

_Professional Level: Bachelors of Science in Computer Science, Math or Scientific Computing preferred. Requires 3-5 years of experience_

_Senior Level: Bachelors of Science in Computer Science, Math or Scientific Computing preferred. Requires 5-8 years of experience_

_Principal Level: Masters of Science in Computer Science, Math or Scientific Computing preferred. Experience: Requires 8-10 years of experience_
