Job Requirements

• Insures the accuracy of patient demographics and insurance information.
• Verify all insurance benefits within 24-48 hours of admit.
• Collect all self pay accounts, deductibles and co-pay prior to discharge.


High school diploma required, some college work preferred

1-2 years experience in physician office or hospital business office

Knowledge and Skills:
• Knowledge of Medicare, Medicare Secondary Payor and Medicaid regulations
• Knowledge of managed care contract rates and third party insurance verification.
• Follow-up and insure all necessary signatures are obtained at admission/ discharge.
• Follow-up with insurance company for verification of insurance benefits.
• Distribute admission packets to Physician and Utilization Review Dept within 24 hours of admission.
• Report insurance problems to Business Office Director for the daily flash meeting.
• Must be able to calculate an estimated balance due from patient based on verification of benefits and hospital contracts.
• Assist the Respond Department with immediate insurance verification as applicable
• Maintain professional demeanor in attitude, dress and hospital mission and philosophy
• All other job responsibilities as assigned.
