Description **SUMMARY:**

Responsible for supporting production, purchasing and controlling of raw materials, closure commodities, and packaging components for work orders received through Corporate, Contract Manufacturing, New Products, Technical Services, Validation requests and Product Development.

Analyze material requirements, plans, coordinates and executes all purchase orders for BOM items and reference systems. Analyzes and plans purchase quantities to assure optimum pricing while maintaining minimum inventory and satisfying plant objectives. Follow up on receipt and release of components to support the production schedule. Process CR's.


Responsible to interpret and analyze computerized MRP system to effectively plan for material requirements in production according to production schedules.

Executes all purchase orders and amendments utilizing most cost effective order quantities.

Responsible for expediting and tracking required material orders to facilitate the successful accomplishment of the planned production schedules for the planning horizon.

Coordinates components with production schedules.

Responsible for accuracy of all information submitted to suppliers to assure latest specifications are referenced.

Responsible for maintenance of the MRP database and reference systems in a timely and accurate manner. Systems include JD Edwards, databases for batch tracking, specifications, monographs, and artwork. Includes loading and maintaining work orders, new products, experiments, and product structures.

Receives and reviews artwork from Corporate office. Distributes documents and artwork to PIC, Quality and suppliers.

Updates JDE, Access, etc. systems. Communicates with Corporate, supplier and Quality to resolve issues as they arise.

Responsible for updating and approving printed Hospira BOM's to reflect changes and assure implementation on the correct production batches through control of the BOM effective date.

Monitors the disposition of various materials from suppliers by accurately maintaining the component release list and assuring Quality Control approval has been received.

Takes appropriate actions as necessary, working with warehouse, Quality Control Department, suppliers, and plant personnel to ensure components are released and stock inventory levels are adequate to meet planned usage. This requires ongoing communication and follow-up.

Ensure we avoid the financial liability of having a bulk in the tank, worth potentially in excess of one million dollars without having adequate released components per MRP.

Responsible for authorizing and routing Special Production Amendments as required to assure the correct components are used on the production batches.


Requires ability to understand and carry out assigned duties effectively. Knowledge needed of specialized business processes such as elementary accounting procedures, basic Word, Excel and Access computer software and typical office procedures. **(High school diploma required plus additional specialized courses or experience)**

JDE/SAP software is used daily. To become proficient in the use of the software would take 6-12 months of on-the-job training for the individual who meets the minimum requirements of the position.
