Our programs have been designed to provide each individual resident quality mental health treatment in a safe therapeutic environment. It is the mission of Newport News Behavioral Health Center to promote recovery from the effects of abuse, addiction and other behavioral issues through specialized treatment interventions provided by a community of caring professionals.

Newport News Behavioral Health Centerhas an excellent career opportunity for an experienced Care Coordinator (LCSW or Licensed Eligible LPC in the State of Virginia) to join our team of dedicated professionals. The candidate selected will be responsible for the following:

• Conducts psychosocial assessments for new patients following admission, as assigned. • Develop and coordinate discharge planning with the treatment team and family. • Conducts individual psychotherapy sessions for patients as scheduled as part of the therapeutic process. • Conducts group psychotherapy sessions for patients as scheduled. Demonstrates high level of clinical skill in assessing the clinical needs of the patient, determining appropriate group interventions and in conducting the group in accordance with those needs. • Conducts specialized groups as assigned based on education, training and experience. • Establishes rapport, systematically gathers data; determines the client’s readiness for treatment and change. • Analyzes and interprets relevant data to determine treatment recommendations and priorities. • Formulates mutually agreed upon, measurable goals and objectives with the client. • Adheres to acceptable ethical and behavioral standards of conduct and continuing professional development. • Coordinates with the treatment team, family and patients in planning of treatment and discharge. • Maintains a full caseload based on the census and availability of staff resources. • Maintains ongoing communications with members of the treatment team. • Provides consultations with other treatment team members as required. • Responsible for keeping family, parent or guardian, informed of treatment goals and plans, as well as patients’ progress. • Interacts therapeutically with patients and families and maintains objectivity and does not discuss personal affairs with patients. • Demonstrates awareness of limitations, utilizes independent judgment. Seeks assistance from other disciplines as necessary. • Is alert, sensitive and provides a supportive attitude with patients, families, employees and management. • Recognizes behaviors associated with and uses proper intervention techniques for Common Psychiatric Diagnoses. • Understands and demonstrates knowledge of outlined consequences of behavior exhibited by the patient. • Maintains knowledge of unit rules and regulations and maintains consistency in implementation. • Utilizes proper seclusion procedures and adheres to facility seclusion policies. • Evaluates on the basis of age-normative behaviors, motor skills, intellectual and emotional functioning. • Recognizes patient’s level of psychosocial development and modifies approaches accordingly to include (a) assisting the patient in development of age-appropriate coping mechanisms, (b) understanding the need and providing opportunities for social interaction with peer group. • Identifies patient’s level of psychosocial and psychosexual development. • Completes required documentation according to facility policy and in accordance with professional standards. • Completes required documentation to reflect ongoing assessment of patient behaviors and feelings.

Job Requirements

Must have a Master’s degree in social work, counseling or a behavioral health related field. Prefer one (1) year experience in a supervised clinical behavioral health care setting specific to family, individual and group therapy with children and adolescents. Prefer current LCSW or licensed eligible status as a LCSW/LPC in the state of Virginia. Must be able to communicate effectively with other health care professionals, both verbally and in writing.  Prefer 1 year experience working in an acute facility.
