Position Summary:

First Home Care has been providing quality care since 1991. We provide community-based services for children with a history of out-of-home behavioral health treatment. The First Home Care team has developed an integrated continuum of care which includes Therapeutic Foster Care, Day Support, Behavior Therapy, School-Based Programming, Alternative Day School and Outpatient Counseling. First Home Care has facilities located in Portsmouth, VA, Richmond, VA, Alexandria, VA, Roanoke, VA, Washington, DC, Clinton, MD and Baltimore, MD.

First Home Care is comprised of First Home Care (FHC) and Oyster Point Academy (OPA). In addition FHC has a long-standing management agreement with Foundations for Home and Community-a Washington D.C. and Maryland based non-profit corporation.

We currently have an excellent career opportunity for an experienced Caseworker to work with our Therapeutic Foster Care program in Alexandria, VA and Richmond, VA.   Potential candidate would work with both locations as needed.

The selected candidate would coordinate case management activities including planning, placement monitoring, crisis intervention and discharge planning. Provide support and consultation to therapeutic foster care and adoptive parents, to the families of children and adolescents receiving services and to other members of the treatment team.

 

Job responsibilities include: 

  • Interviewing children and families.
  • Conducting youth assessments.
  • Conducting home visits.
  • Attending court cases and treatment team meetings.
  • Preparing and carrying out treatment plans with children and families.
  • Preparing and maintaining case records.
  • On-call crisis rotation.
  • Provide information/training to foster parents.
  • Keeping biological families updated on client progress.
  • Develops comprehensive service plans in accordance to the clients specific needs initially within 30 days of placement and quarterly thereafter.
  • Work flexible hours to include evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Provide overall casework service to children and adolescents referred for therapeutic foster care and/or adoption services.
  • Works in the home of therapeutic foster care parents and families of clients and the community requiring frequent local travel. Schedule will vary and include evenings, nights and weekends.

Requirements

The following are the job requirements for the Caseworker position: 

  • A bachelor’s degree in social work or a field related to social work including, but not limited to sociology, psychology, special education or counseling and one year of experience with providing casework services to children and families; or a bachelor’s degree in any field plus 2 years experience in providing casework services to children and families.
  • Must possess knowledge of community resources and how to access such resources; principles of effective home, family and personal management; family dynamics; crisis intervention management; parenting and child care skills training; home management; resource/network building; and strong organizational and communication skills; assessment/treatment planning skills; understanding of family styles.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record required.
