What you'll do?

The WebEx Operations Team is seeking a Senior Cassandra & Postgres DBA. In this role you will be the Cassandra subject matter expert and provide support for the current variant data stores and production environments. The current data store includes Oracle RAC 11g (200+ Instances), Cassandra and Postgres in our data center.

Additional responsibilities include the following;

  • Design, deploy, and support highly available and scalable distributed Cassandra DB solutions for high volume applications.
  • Maintain and develop data models, structures, and procedures to ensure the integrity and performance of all database components.
  • Integrate Cassandra database with other application components.
  • Assist in the migration of existing database applications from SQL to Cassandra DB;
  • Troubleshoot database issues and performance bottlenecks
  • Produce clear documentation for delivered solutions
  • Work with development and quality assurance teams to deliver robust, quality, on-time solutions.
  • 2-4 years’ experience with relevant scripting g languages or programming frameworks desired (Python, JavaScript, Perl, C.).

 Postgres DBA responsibilities include the following;

  • Administration of PostgreSQL databases throughout the development and production lifecycle.
  • Design and develop logical and physical database designs from customer requirements. Provide advice and support to development resources.
  • Provide guidance in the creation and modification of standards and procedures. Supporting the standing standards, policies and procedures of the customer team.
  • Provide mentorship to group members and will be expected to help develop and support mid and junior level staff.
  • May be scheduled for after hours on-call support and will be required to apply production packages during non-peak hours.
  • The selected candidate will accept other duties as directed by management. Skills Requirements: Day to day administration of PostgreSQL databases
  • Collaborate with development, architecture, and release teams, providing architectural design recommendations, driving standards for effective PostgreSQL transition to production operations.
  • In depth knowledge of the PostgreSQL architecture
  • Drive end to end availability, performance monitoring, and capacity planning for PostgreSQL, using different tools
  • Implement automated methods and industry best practices for consistent installation and configuration of PostgreSQL for production and non-production environments
  • Conduct technical reviews and walk through of system design documentation with development and design team members.
  • Manage backup and recovery functions for a PostgreSQL data warehouse environment
  • Proactively monitor and setup alerting mechanism for both database and supporting hardware to ensure system health and maximum availability
  • Create users, establish database security, create resource queue, performance tuning in terms of query execution etc.
  • Plan and coordinate system upgrades
  • Manage Disaster Recovery environment
  • Identify and resolve incidents and address to user problems/concerns
  • Generate reports of all processes and jobs currently running on PostgreSQL with details like users, start and end time, CPU Usage and time, Memory usage, IO Time, locking etc.

Who are you?

We are seeking a Senior Database Administrator who has a strong background in working in large scale high availability production environments will full life cycle database management expertise including planning, tuning, installation, configuration, migration, monitoring, troubleshooting and backup & recovery.

Other minimum requirements including the following;

  • A BS/EE/CS Degree and a minimum of 6-7 years of DBA experience
  • A minimum of 2+ years of Cassandra DBA experience in a large scale production environment
  • Previous experience in the design and deployment of Cassandra database solutions in support of high volume applications
  • A minimum of 3+ years of Postgres OR PostgreSQL database administration
  • Strong work experience with database monitoring and backup tools such as RMAN, GoldenGate, etc.
