Position Summary

As the Category Manager / BUYER, you'll be responsible for ensuring that your product category has a market-leading assortment, excellent financial performance and a great shopper experience across all of Walmart's eCommerce brands Jet.com, Walmart.com, Hayneedle.com (and more to come).
Responsibilities will include:
Continually evolve the category's assortment strategy through in-market expertise
Own and optimize the product sourcing mix across manufacturers, distributors and third-party retailers
Own category financial targets (e.g. GMV and margin), and identify (and execute upon) levers to achieve those targets
Manage on-site product presentation and catalog data, and drive requirements into the search and browse experience Taxonomy, Navigation, Tagging, Attributes
Identify shopper experience and product work-flow enhancement opportunities and collaborate with product teams to execute
Collaborate with marketing teams around category promotions
Managing a team of category specialists
Demonstrates up-to-date expertise in merchandising concepts for assigned categories and applies this to the development, execution, and improvement of action plans
Drives sales and gross profit through the optimization of the product assortment in assigned department or categories
Maximizes the return on inventory investment in partnership with the Merchandise Planning team, cross-functional partners, and suppliers
Models compliance with company policies and procedures and supports company mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity
Provides and supports the implementation of business solutions
Supports cross-channel and company initiatives to achieve global strategic multi-channel plans


Position Description


  • Creates, manages, and executes new feature and product development roadmaps

  • Demonstrates up-to-date expertise in the Walmart.com merchandising/services area and applies this to the development, execution, and improvement of action plans

  • Ensures the alignment of multiple cross-functional teams to ensure the achievement of business objectives

  • Manages products, services, and operations (for example, store execution, customer service, fulfillment timeliness, service level agreement (SLA) compliance) for assigned business areas

  • Manages the placement of products and services with drop-ship vendors (DSVs)

  • Manages the product or service assortment and delivery channels

  • Models compliance with company policies and procedures and supports company mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity

  • Provides and supports the implementation of business solutions


Minimum Qualifications

4+ years of proven experience in merchandise, forecasting and product selection
2-3 years developing strong business relationships with vendors and industry leaders
1-2 years experience managing and maintaining open-to-buy
Education level
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience Physical Requirements
Physical Requirements
Travel required - Typical travel is between 3-5 days per month


Additional Preferred Qualifications

Merchandise trend analysis background a plus.
Specific category merchandising experience strongly preferred
Proven ability to manage online specific category preferred
Experience managing categories of business in extremely competitive environment preferred
