Northwestern Catering is seeking a dynamic Catering Manager 3 to assist a vibrant Catering team at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL

 

Reporting to the Catering Director, the catering manager will be tasked with the organization, coordinating and "boots to the ground" execution of Northwestern University catering events on the Evanston campus. The ideal candidate will have a strong catering background with 2+ years catering experience, experience with upscale events, the ability to plan and execute multiple catering functions simultaneously in a high volume ($2MIL MV) operation. Wil oversee up to 10 staff, including 2 supervisors, but up to 40 associates for larger events.

 

The Catering Manager has to be able to re-evaluate and improve on practices such as culinary, labor, hiring, scheduling, training staff, strong organizational/troubleshooting skills, enhance customer satisfaction, and maintaining a very strong client relationship.

 

The position is responsible for managing labor cost, managing daily catering operations, specific clients requests, logistics of events, overseeing labor standards and event rentals (Linens, florals etc).

 

The Catering Manager must be flexible to work varying shifts based on catering business needs including some evenings and weekends. A valid driver's license is required as the Catering Manager will be required to drive a company vehicle.

 

The ideal candidate has:

 

A career background in catering management and event production with high-volume ($2+ million), upscale catering experience, ability to plan, execute and coordinate multiple events according to specific standards and to reevaluate and improve on practices, strong organizational and troubleshooting skills along with experience enhancing customer satisfaction. Position will work with a Catering Director, Executive Catering Chef, Supervisors and a strong team of seasoned catering professionals.  Together the ideal candidate and their team will maintain strong client relationships through frequent contact with: departments, student groups, alumni, and outside organizations. EMS or similar catering program knowledge a plus.  **Valid Driver’s License required as position will regularly drive a company vehicle. 

Position Summary

Oversight of catering activities for a medium to large size location/unit with less than $1.5M in managed catering volume. Complex events with a high degree of hands on involvement in catering solutions.  Large amount of high profile events. Strong client interaction.
Key Duties
- Oversight of Sodexo resources, recipes, systems and use of catering programs to direct daily catering events including; food production, inventory, product deliveries, invoices, and procurement operations.
- Oversight of the sales process for catering and/or conference services. Works with client and customers to design events.
- Ensures employees have appropriate equipment, supplies and resources to perform their job, and meet goals, cost controls and deadlines as assigned.
- Establishes and maintains a safe work environment including both food and physical safety in order to comply with all regulatory and Sodexo standards in various environments. Drives the Zero Harm mindset.
- Complies with budget requirements by controlling costs (i.e. labor, inventory, equipment, materials) and making adjustments when necessary
- Supervises employees by delegating, assigning and prioritizing activities, and monitoring operating standards
 

 

 

Qualifications & Requirements

Basic Education Requirement - Associate's Degree
Basic Management Experience - 2 years
Basic Functional Experience – 1 year work experience in food or culinary services including restaurants, fast food, vending, catering services, institutional services, mall food courts, etc.
