Sodexo has an exciting career opportunity available at The Hotchkiss School for a Catering Manager. The Hotchkiss School is a flagship account, which features a focus on Sustainable Agriculture. This position works closely with the client, in arranging their events throughout the year. Catering scope will entail small dinners at the Presidents house up to 2,000+ guests for Parents weekend. A solid understanding of culinary trends, as well as sustainable agriculture

We serve many VIP guests, with an emphasis on fine dining. Ideal candidates will have extensive experience with high end catering events, in multiple locations at overlapping times. Multi-tasking, delegation and stress management are all qualities that will make for a successful candidate.

Position Summary:

Manages all catered events. Hires, schedules, and trains front line employees and catering staff. Works with clients & customers to arrange and follow through on all catering details and to ensure all special requests are met. Directs setup and execution of events; responsible for pricing, billing and resolving customer concerns. Develops seasonal menu’s around the customers budget. Works with the management team to assist, support and deliver the highest quality dining experience possible.


Sodexo Dining Services is seeking a Catering Manager 3 for a high profile, high volume account located at The Hotchkiss School, Lakeville CT. Located in between the Hudson River Valley, and Litchfield county; just ninety miles from New York City. The ideal candidate has a college degree and specialized, well-tuned experience in the catering management field.  While believing that today’s achievements are tomorrow’s standards, the ideal candidate will also understand the need to remain cool, calm and collected while ensuring a sense of urgency. Experience with high volumes in a diversified area, a high profile & demanding clientele base, a well-developed customer service repertoire and management development strategies are major keys of success.


This hands-on catering management position will work with the catering team on:

  1. All Catering Details & Follow Ups
  2. Advanced Culinary Techniques
  3. Specific Client Requests
  4. Logistics of Events including Inventory & Procurement
  5. HAACP Monitors
  6. Labor Variance Reports
  7. Menu Development & Pricing
  8. Food Quality Assurance & Recipe Compliance
  9. Billing, Payroll & Accounts Payable
  10. OSHA Compliance
  11. Labor Standards Compliance

The ideal candidate has: A career background in catering management and menu planning with high-volume, upscale catering experience, a formal degree, Servsafe Certification, ability to; plan, execute and coordinate multiple events according to specific standards and to re-evaluate and improve on practices, culinary and financial expertise, strong organizational and troubleshooting skills along with experience enhancing customer satisfaction. Position will work with the management team, supervisors and front line staff; as well as catering staff. Ideal candidates will maintain strong client relationships through frequent contact with: departments, student groups, alumni, and outside organizations. Experience with wine pairing and fundamental culinary knowledge strongly desired.  Catertrax or similar catering program knowledge is a plus.  


With this position being a year-round role featuring a typical schedule of Tuesday through Saturday, the ideal candidate will realize when analyzing revenue streams and cost centers of up to $700K  in volume that their schedule may include additional weekend and holiday coverage according to the needs of the operation.



Position Summary

Oversight of catering activities for a medium to large size location/unit with less than $1.5M in managed catering volume. Complex events with a high degree of hands on involvement in catering solutions.  Large amount of high profile events. Strong client interaction.
Key Duties
- Oversight of Sodexo resources, recipes, systems and use of catering programs to direct daily catering events including; food production, inventory, product deliveries, invoices, and procurement operations.
- Oversight of the sales process for catering and/or conference services. Works with client and customers to design events.
- Ensures employees have appropriate equipment, supplies and resources to perform their job, and meet goals, cost controls and deadlines as assigned.
- Establishes and maintains a safe work environment including both food and physical safety in order to comply with all regulatory and Sodexo standards in various environments. Drives the Zero Harm mindset.
- Complies with budget requirements by controlling costs (i.e. labor, inventory, equipment, materials) and making adjustments when necessary
- Supervises employees by delegating, assigning and prioritizing activities, and monitoring operating standards



Qualifications & Requirements

Basic Education Requirement - Associate's Degree
Basic Management Experience - 2 years
Basic Functional Experience – 1 year work experience in food or culinary services including restaurants, fast food, vending, catering services, institutional services, mall food courts, etc.
