Sodexo has an exciting opportunity for an exceptional Catering Manager 4/Director at The University at Albany in NY! 

 

Our vast campus food operations include resident dining, retail dining, catering and concessions.

 

As the Director of Catering, you will oversee an innovative, high-end catering program for high-profile clients, as well as oversee the day-to-day catering scheduling/technical delivery of all events. In this position, you will be charged with creating casual, elegant and sophisticated catering experiences that exceed culinary and service expectations while enhancing client program objectives.  The Catering Director will work with a catering team to include a Catering Manager, Catering Executive Chef and an Admin.  This premier catering program has sales around $1.6M annually and is expected to grow.  Our catering program includes a mix of catering to include everything from coffee drops, summer camps/conferences, various social and private functions, special events, holiday themed events and Presidential functions.

 

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Strong catering experience in a high-end/high-volume catering environment, including solid financial acumen and deep understanding of the technical delivery aspect of catering;
  • High volume catering / banquet experience with a Campus/University, Banquet/Hotel/Conference Center or private catering company;
  • Capacity/background/experience to manage all catering services throughout entire campus;
  • Proven catering sales experience in order to grow existing business;
  • Varied catering experience/knowledge to manage high-end and fine dining requirements and have the ability to follow customized university/client budgetary guidelines;
  • Strong knowledge of wine, food and menu development;
  • Ability to communicate and work with all levels of staff/management at the campus, as well as all those that work within the various departments and functions; 
  • Ability to build, train and mentor a solid catering team who same level commitment and passion for catering: Quality presentation, customer service, professionalism;
  • Ability to multi-task and delegate to coordinate multiple events and utilize a systems-based approach to meet each event’s time-lines/specifications and quality of product;
  • Experience with Catertrax or other catering software program.

Position Summary

Provides supervision for catering services at an account/unit to ensure client satisfaction and retention for the Company. Oversees a highly complex and high volume of catering sales and functions in excess of $1.5M in managed catering volume.
Contributes to account revenue and operating profit contribution through the implementation of services and creation of opportunities for growth. Plans projects, including defining objectives, methods, timetables and budget to support client and Sodexo's strategic plan.
Key Duties
- Oversight of Sodexo resources, recipes, systems and use of catering programs to direct daily catering events including; food production, inventory, product deliveries, invoices, and procurement operations.
- Oversight of the sales process for catering and/or conference services. Works with client and customers to design events.
- Ensures employees have appropriate equipment, supplies and resources to perform their job, and meet goals, cost controls and deadlines as assigned.
- Establishes and maintains a safe work environment including both food and physical safety in order to comply with all regulatory and Sodexo standards in various environments. Drives the Zero Harm mindset.
- Complies with budget requirements by controlling costs (i.e. labor, inventory, equipment, materials) and making adjustments when necessary
- Supervises employees by delegating, assigning and prioritizing activities, and monitoring operating standards
 

 

Qualifications & Requirements

Basic Education Requirement - Bachelor’s Degree 

Basic Management Experience - 3 years   

Basic Functional Experience - 3 years of experience in catering, food production, or food service management or a related field
