Position Summary:

Austin Oaks Hospital is hiring a Certified Coder.  Austin Oaks Hospital is an 80-bed psychiatric care facility.  We are a leading provider of quality psychiatric treatment services specializing in treatment for adults, adolescents and children. Our goal is to help individuals and families achieve optimal mental health, resulting in improved quality of life.

 The Certified Coder will code all inpatient and outpatient (IOP and PHP) medical record diagnoses to ensure accurate billing and correct reimbursement.


The Certified Coder will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

·         Reads and interprets medical record documentation to identify all diagnoses, conditions, problems and/or other reasons for the patients’ medical and behavioral health care.

·         Assigns accurate ICD-10-CM and/or DSM codes of diagnoses to ensure accurate billing and correct reimbursement.

·         Maintain an accuracy rate of 98% or better on the UHS Coding Accuracy and Documentation Reviews (Medicare Audit).

·         Maintain confidentiality of all protected patient information.

·         Maintains good relationships with physicians, allied staff and hospital employees.  Promotes good customer service.

·         Identifies and communicates problems and/or opportunities to improve processes with appropriate department staff.

·         Meeting the compliance standard of faxing information to the next level provider within 24 hours of discharge

·         Supports facility mission and service excellence concept at all times.

·         Other duties as assigned by director

Required:   High School Diploma or equivalent. 

Preferred:  Bachelor’s degree in health related field or a Two-Year Associate’s degree that includes course work in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.



Minimum of one (1) year of recent coding of inpatient and outpatient records in a hospital setting.  Minimum of one (1) year of recent coding of inpatient and outpatient records in hospital setting in a psychiatric facility.   



Required:  Certification as RHIA, RHIT, CCA or CCS
