Job Description

Essential Job Duties

  • Documents all activities performed in accordance with established policy.
  • Ensures proper patient identification at all times as according to policy.
  • Observes patient behavior, focusing on biophysical, developmental, cognitive, emotional, spiritual and sociocultural needs.
  • Identifies distinct patient problems and communicates observations to the primary RN, Charge Nurse, and Unit Director as applicable.  
  • Identifies inappropriate behavior of patient and communicates observations to Charge Nurse.
  • Performs the secretarial/clerical aspects of patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse.
  • Ensures optimum patient flow by utilizing Bed Management Dashboard (BMD) and Interactive Voice Recognition System (IVR) in accordance with policy.                                                
  • Prioritizes and processes physician orders accurately and within designated time frame and seeks assistance as needed.
  • Completes staffing and census reports as required.
  • Organizes and prioritizes all clerical work assignments inter- and intra-departmentally; providing follow-through as necessary. 
  • Contributes to continuity of patient care by coordinating patient care activities, e.g., tests, treatments, consultations.
  • Maintains patient medical records and reports utilizing established policies and procedures and forms, e.g., advance directives, conditions of admission, patient deaths, chart thinning; keeping medical record contents together when patient is transferred among units; ensuring medical record is sent to Health Information Management immediately upon discharge.
  • Prioritizes and processing physician orders accurately and within designated time frame and seeks assistance as needed.
  • Answers patient calls, receives, greets, and directs patients/visitors, records and delivers messages for patients/staff.
  • Other duties as assigned by Unit Director and/or Charge RN.

 

Job Requirements

Essential Knowledge and Skills

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in the English language.
  • Basic nursing care terminology and functions.
  • Telephone skills.
  • Ability to accurately collect and record patient data as directed.

Minimum Essential Experience

  • Six (6) months CNA experience preferred at acute care facility.

Minimum Essential Education

  • Completion of an accredited Certified Nursing Assistant program.

Required Licensure/Certifications

  • Current, valid Certified Nursing Assistant certificate.
  • BLS Certification (AHA and current).
  • CPI or NCI certified within 120 days of hire.

Work Environment

  • Ability to work in high volume, fluctuating census environment.
  • Subject to many interruptions.
  • Subject to irregular hours.
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment where noise levels fluctuate.
  • Subject to a variety of odors.
