Job Description

Job Duties

  • Documents all activities performed in accordance with established policy.

  • Observes patient behavior, focusing on biophysical, developmental, cognitive, emotional, spiritual and sociocultural needs.

  • Identifies distinct patient problems and communicates observations to the primary RN, Charge Nurse, and Unit Director as applicable.

  • Identifies inappropriate behavior of patient and communicates observations to Charge Nurse.

  • Performs the secretarial/clerical aspects of patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse

  • Ensures optimum patient flow by utilizing Bed Management Dashboard (BMD) and Interactive Voice Recognition System (IVR) in accordance with policy.

  • Prioritizes and processes physician orders accurately and within designated time frame; seeking assistance as needed.

  • Completes staffing and census reports as required.

  • Organizes and prioritizing all clerical work assignments inter- and intra-departmentally; providing follow-through as necessary.

  • Contributing to continuity of patient care by coordinating patient care activities, e.g., tests, treatments, consultations.

  • Maintains patient medical records and reports utilizing established policies and procedures.

  • Ensures medical records are sent to Health Information Management immediately upon discharge.

  • Maintains competency in the use of computer and software programs necessary to the position.

  • Typing, copying, faxing, and filing.

  • Prioritizes and processes physician orders accurately and within designated time frame.

  • Answers patient calls, receives, greets, and directs patients/visitors, and records and delivers messages for patients/staff.

  • Acts as the communication liaison during emergency situations.

  • Other duties as assigned by Unit Director and/or Charge RN.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in the English language.
  • Basic nursing care terminology and functions.
  • Telephone skills.
  • Ability to accurately collect and record patient data as directed.

 

MINIMUM ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE

  • Six (6) months CNA experience preferred at acute care facility.

 

MINIMUM ESSENTIAL EDUCATION

  • Completion of an accredited Certified Nursing Assistant program.

REQUIRED LICENSURE / CERTIFICATIONS

  • Current, valid Certified Nursing Assistant certificate.
  • BLS Certification (AHA and current)
  • CPI or NCI certified within 120 days of hire

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Ability to work in high volume, fluctuating census environment.
  • Subject to many interruptions.
  • Subject to irregular hours.
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment where noise levels fluctuate.
  • Subject to a variety of odors.
