Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: Assumes shift responsibility and accountability for the planning and provision of direct and indirect nursing care to the patient, family, care partner and appropriate others. Coordinates multi-disciplinary team members, directs and facilitates nursing staff in obtaining safe, optimal health care outcomes. Supports activities that meet the facility vision, mission and goals. Provides professional leadership and support to the healthcare team. The concepts of Patient Centered Care will provide the foundation for all nursing care. Demonstrates Service Excellence standards at all times.  Develops, implements, and evaluates an age-appropriate plan of care utilizing the nursing process, clinical skills, and patient education. Maintains professional behavior when dealing with issues or conflicts, utilizing appropriate resources, as needed. Provides an environment conducive to safety for patients, families, visitors, and employees. The RN will assess risks to patient safety and implement the appropriate precautions. The RN will comply with appropriate and approved standards, as outlined by the organization and accrediting agencies. The RN will comply with safety and injury prevention standards to minimize risk to self, co-workers, patients, and visitors.  The concepts of the patient centered care delivery model will provide the foundation for all nursing care.

Job Requirements

The Charge Nurse (CN) functions under the supervision of the Supervisor – Medical / Surgical Services. The CN assures provision of care to an assigned patient population in a professional manner, utilizing the nursing process and the principles of continuous quality improvement in collaboration with other health team members. The CN is responsible for management of staff, physicians, and patients for a designated unit. Supports an organizational culture for Service Excellence and practices the Service Excellence Standards to all customer groups.

ADULT CRITICAL CARE (SICU, MICU):
• ACLS completion within 3 months of hire or promotion and maintain throughout employment
• CCRN, TNCC and CVN preferred for specialty units
• Must pass EKG, Blood Gas Analysis and Basic Knowledge Assessment Test (BKAT) with a score of 85% upon completion of didactic orientation program – Employee will have two chances to pass exams with remediation material available. **Experienced critical care nurses may test out of didactic orientation with a score of 85% on the Blood Gas Analysis and BKAT
• 100% score on medication test – Employee will have two chances to pass exam with remediation material available
• Satisfactory return demonstration of competencies required for critical care specific processes and equipment.
• **Employment is dependent on passing above exams and competencies**

1. Minimum experience one year as an Emergency RN or Critical Care RN

2. Must possess current BLS certification upon hire and maintain certification throughout employment

3. BSN required or candidate must acquire within 3 years.

4. ACLS within 3 months of hire

5. PALS or ENPC and TNCC within 12-months of hire

6. CEN preferred
