    §  To retrieve and dispense requested fine chemicals against requisitions

    §  To source and order chemicals for UM/UP chemistry and biology departments using appropriate databases

    §  To liaise with suppliers to ensure best practice and availability

    §  To track and follow up on orders, quotations

    §  To record all chemical movements onto a chemical inventory database (ICARUS)

    §  To manage the chemical inventory database

    §  To be responsible for the registration of commercial compounds

    §  To assist with the disposal of chemically contaminated empties and out of date chemicals

    §  To interconvert chemical names into structures and vice versa

    §  To work with other team members with the organization of the chemical store

    §  To maintain an up to date inventory of chemicals held on site

    §  To ensure safety information is accurately entered on to the databases

    §  To ensure timely and accurate reporting of data including performance metrics.

    §   Comply with all occupational health and safety rules and regulations. Be aware of hazards and recommendations for safety improvements if necessary

    §  Liaison with scientific staff and other team members

    §  Assist with the preparation of SOPs and Risk Assessments

    §  Work flexibly depending on team priorities and support requirements

    §  Perform any other reasonable duties as requested by the line manager

    Position Summary

    This position is intended to support GlaxoSmithKline Research Scientists. Primary physical chemistry duties include ordering, tracking, preparation of samples; running physicochemical screens, analyzing, processing, and posting data generated; and performing bespoke studies and analyses as needed. Primary purification duties include purification post-processing, running chiral and achiral screens and preparative runs as needed, and modification and addition of new screening methods. Additional duties include general maintenance of laboratory environment, including making and refilling HPLC (high performance liquid chromatography) solvents, removing HPLC waste, and stocking and ordering lab supplies.

    - Ensure lab supplies are stocked and order, as necessary
    - Run assays and export results for team members
    - Ensure proper removal of waste
    - Deliver, pickup and receive chemicals


    Qualifications & Requirements

    Basic Education Requirement - High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
