Lincoln Trail Behavioral Health System is a 140 bed hospital offering inpatient services for children, adolescents, adults and their families. Requirements

The Chemical Dependency Counselor is responsible for performing a variety of direct clinical duties. These include, but are not limited to, education and process group tx modalities. The CD counselor is responsible for performing thorough and accurate psychosocial evaluations.  Contributing to master treatment plans, preparing and facilitating group therapy, and evaluating their written assignments.   The CD counselor demonstrates the ability to communicate with both clients and staff. He/she demonstrates the ability to effectively prioritize the multiple demands of the position and is able to accurately follow instructions. He/she understands the documentation requirements and completes these requirements in a timely fashion. Excellent judgment and clinical skills are essential for this position. Must possess knowledge of developmental stages of adults and the social, cultural, environmental influences on patient and family members. Is responsible for their own clinical growth through the attendance of inservices, presentations, and other continuing education activities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced education preferred. A license or certification in a specialized field is required and if an independent practice/certification is not present, this individual must be clinically supervised by a staff having appropriate credentials, ie. LCADC, and also must actively work towards his/her own licensure/certification. At least two years working in a human services organization with inpatient or outpatient psychiatric or chemical dependency populations is strongly preferred, although not required.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. Ability to communicate on an effective level with both clients and staff from a variety of disciplines.
