Position Summary:

Fremont Hospital is a 148 bed acute psychiatric hospital situated in the heart of the bay area in the city of Fremont. We are the largest freestanding psychiatric hospital in the East Bay filled with diversity and the feel of a close knit community. We currently seek an experienced behavioral health professional for our Chemical Dependency Therapist opportunity (Per Diem). The Chemical Dependency Therapist reports to the CD IOP Program Manager and works closely with the OPS Director, the physicians and other staff, as indicated, assigned to the Chemical Dependency Program. This employee will work directly with chemically addicted patients participating as an active member of the interdisciplinary treatment planning team; will provide patients with initial integrated, chemical dependency, psychosocial, spirituality assessments, treatment, discharge plans, individual and group drug and alcohol counseling, group therapy and family drug and alcohol education, films/process/assignment and topic discussion groups, seminars and assist with aftercare planning and groups. In addition, he/she will serve as liaison between the program and community support groups attend and participate in continuing education conferences. Employee must maintain chemical dependency credential. Employee must have strong communication, documentation, computer, insurance verification and utilization review skills.



Education: A.A. degree and/or certificate program from an accredited college or university school in chemical dependency studies, psychology or related field with additional education in drug/ETOH counseling; Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Experience: Minimum two years supervised working experience in a substance abuse treatment setting working with chemically dependent patients, and expertise in dual diagnosis, 12-step programs and substance abuse, conducting assessments, lectures, counseling, working with family dynamics and group therapy.

Licensure: State Licensure or credential in drug abuse counseling. (Approved by the California Department of Alcohol Drug Programs)

Additional Requirements: CPR/AED Certification must be current and presented to Human Resources upon hire. You may complete the Fremont Hospital’s non- violent Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training course within 90 days of employment and prior to assisting with preventative intervention measures.
