Position Description

 

 

 

 

 

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) for UnitedHealthcare Global (UHCG) is responsible for providing overall leadership, establishing and maintaining technical roadmaps, and representing all technology disciplines for the UHCG businesses. They will be responsible for delivering innovative technology solutions by partnering with UHG enterprise and local technology teams.

 

 

 

 

Core responsibilities of this role will include:

 

 

 

  • Understanding business strategy, translating that strategy into an IT agenda and driving execution against the agenda

  • Creating, socializing and evolving the strategic technology roadmap

  • Translating technology concepts into clear, digestible, business appropriate language

  • Contributing to business strategy as a member of both the technology and business leadership teams

  • Ensuring effective alignment of technology to support business strategies

  • Designing, implementing and orchestrating an innovative & disciplined software development process

  • Understanding technology solutions for the storage and manipulation of data as well as application functionality

  • Holding end to end accountability for making the IT service chain work including both applications and infrastructure

  • Integrating acquired organizations and technology assets

  • Ensuring consistent delivery on schedule, on cost, on scope, on benefit and within quality goals

  • Continually driving innovative solutions to business challenges and ing technology best practices

  • Leading technology integration and simplification initiatives on an ongoing basis

  • Building relationships to appropriately leverage resources to deliver solutions 

  • Designing an efficient staffing model through leveraging of diversified labor sources

  • Providing an end to end constituent experience that exceeds expectations

  • Provide leadership to a team of people accountable for end-to-end business line technology

  • Create and foster an environment of innovation - including: remove roadblocks and enable strategic risk taking; advocates and drives change management, enable and model adoption of innovative behaviors and practices

 

 

 

Candidates will possess:

 

 

 

  • 15 + years of progressive technology leadership experiences

  • Proven success creating business enabling 3 year technology roadmaps

  • Broad technology experience, including complex systems integration and infrastructure expertise

  • Demonstrated success in leveraging technology to meet business objectives

  • History of engaging with CEO and COO customers and external clients

  • Proven track record of effective working relationships with executives and key business partners to drive change agendas

  • Demonstrated strategic thinking abilities and an enterprise-wide perspective

  • Experience leading through influence in a large, matrixed, global environment

  • Leadership style which fosters accountability, transparent communication and innovation

  • Outstanding collaboration, strong influencing, problem solving and negotiation skills

  • Proven ability to sell ideas to others outside of your direct team members (lead through influence)

  • Innovative orientation

  • Proven ability to understand business operating workflows and translate them (and the business strategy) into an IT agenda

  • Proven experience managing organizational growth and change

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or related discipline, or equivalent experiences

  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally up to 50%

 

 

 

Preferred experiences / qualifications:

 

 

  • Bi-lingual to include English plus Spanish and/or Portuguese
  • Prior experience with Optum and/or UHG systems
  • Healthcare industry experiences
  • Health benefit operations and / or international experiences
  • Experience leveraging shared technology services
  • Understanding of international data requirements and regulations for information protection

  • Advanced degree
