The Clinical Consultant, Sales Support will lead and manage ongoing sales opportunities for small to mid - range PBM clients. They will collaborate in the development of both prospective groups and existing account renewals. The sales process includes the development and execution of clinical strategies and / or tactics in the following areas; Pre - RFP Prospecting and Relationship Development, Proposal Development, Presentation Development and Delivery (finalist or other). Support prospective clients that require named Clinical Consultant to attend finalist meeting and manage account in event of win. Participate in ancillary clinical support programs on as needed bases, as determined by Clinical Leadership.
This is a telecommuter position. Candidates who reside anywhere in the Continental U.S. within a commutable distance to a major airport may be considered.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the core selling process, adapt style, and effectively bring clinical value to the customer during the sales process
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to gather and validate key trends and dynamics in the market
  • Utilize market knowledge to uncover and prioritize unique opportunities that will allow for mutual value between OptumRx and our clients
  • therapeutic area knowledge to the sale of OptumRx Clinical Products
  • Prioritize opportunities, develop strategy & tactics, monitor progress and adjust direction in an effort to maximize sales performance
  • Collect information, derive inferences, find solutions and make informed decisions and recommendations using data and tools where appropriate
  • knowledge of PBM industry and knowledge of overall healthcare economy and industry practices.
  • Identify opportunities for clinical program up - sell
  • Make clinically sound recommendations based on available data
  • Incorporate treatment & practice guidelines into client presentations including up-selling opportunities
  • Analyze & interpret benefit designs
  • Clearly communicate analytical and reporting needs to supporting departments
  • Identify and create opportunities to manage trend and add OptumRx products
  • Participate in ancillary clinical projects on an as needed basis. Project participation determined by Clinical Leadership
  • Provide Clinical Consulting support if assigned to a client win

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or PharmD
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working as a licensed Pharmacist
  • Current and unrestricted Pharmacist license
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Office and Outlook
  • Ability to travel up to 50%
  • Strong clinical and analytic background
  • Client facing experience with proven ability to quickly adapt to a new selling process, adjust style, and confidently and effectively articulate our organizational clinical value proposition, culture and strategy to prospective clients
  • Experience working within a PBM and strong understanding of the PBM industry; current pharmacy market dynamics, and core PBM clinical program offerings: past, present and future
  • Experience working in close collaboration with a Sales team in supporting and participating in all pre - sales, RFP, data review / interpretation and final sales presentation activity
  • Extensive experience, as well as strong poise / confidence, in high level presentation and small - group negotiation activity


Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 or more years of managed care or PBM experience
  • 2 or more years of client facing or clinical account management experience
