Newport News Behavioral Health Center is a residential and acute program, for males and females ages 8-21, consist of a cognitive behavioral treatment model that encourages youth to safely explore thoughts and feelings related to the development of positive and desirable behavior within their homes and communities. Our programs have been designed to provide each individual resident quality mental health treatment in a safe therapeutic environment.

It is the mission of Newport News Behavioral Health Center to promote recovery from the effects of abuse, addiction and other behavioral issues through specialized treatment interventions provided by a community of caring professionals.

Newport News Behavioral Health Center Acute Care Services has an excellent career opportunity for an experienced Clinical Intake Coordinator to join our team of dedicated professionals.

The candidate selected will be responsible for the following:
• Completes the Admission Assessment on the patient and contacts the appropriate doctor if admission criteria are met.
• Explains hospital regulations such as visiting hours, items that can and cannot be brought into facility.
• Enters patient admitting information into computer and routes printed copy to designated department.
• Clinician refers and triages patients to other placements as appropriate.
• Uses effective interpersonal skills when dealing with patients, family members, and co-workers.
• Develops forms and systems that are conducive to accuracy and superior service.
• Coordinates with the treatment team in planning of admissions process
• Responsible for all referral calls and handles each in a professional, enthusiastic manner; obtains all necessary demographic as well as clinical, financial, physician and family information at the point of referral to facilitate the assessment approval process. Demonstrates good clinical skills in assessing for clinical criteria in the admission process and projecting anticipated length of stay on potential patients.
• Assigns attending physician based on clinical requirements, to those patients without an admitting physician.
• Conducts and coordinates family tours as needed, assuring that clinical, operational and financial questions are answered.
• Coordinates and ensures eligibility and benefit verification and financial approval will be documented for all referrals to confirm financial viability of a possible admission and ensure the patient has sufficient benefits to cover their anticipated stay.

 

Job Requirements

• Master’s Degree in appropriate Human Services field.
• Two years of experience working with adolescents in a psychiatric or acute facility.
• Situational evaluation and crisis intervention experience preferred.
