Lincoln Prairie Behavioral Health Center is a Joint Commission approved and state licensed facility for 88 beds, which includes pediatric units, adolescent girls, adolescent boys, and MISA (Mental Illness Substance Abuse) unit. We are committed to providing youth with compassionate treatment that encourages self-responsibility and personal growth. Lincoln Prairie provides treatment to children and adolescents (ages 3-17) that present with a broad range of psychiatric and behavioral disorders. Lincoln Prairie offers an array of outpatient programs. We provide educational programs, enhanced Occupational Therapy services, Recreational Therapy, Art and Music Therapy, while utilizing a holistic treatment approach.

We are seeking a Clinical Nurse Manager to support Lincoln Prairie’s mission. The Clinical Nurse Manager is the administrative leader for their respective unit.  The position requires 24-hour-a-day responsibility and accountability for the individual nursing care provided to patients and families and for the management of a safe and therapeutic milieu.  The CNM acts as a clinical role model providing clinical leadership, teaching and supervision of nursing staff. This position is responsible for the coordinated delivery of patient care in accordance with the established standards of care, mental health practice and hospital policy, goals and objectives.

The primary responsibilities of this position include:

  • Assumes overall responsibility for the provision of patient care services on assigned unit.
  • Maintains and clarifies professional expectations of staff in accordance with missions and vision of LPBHC.
  • Supervises all activities of the clinical staff on their assigned unit.
  • Facilitates continual growth of nursing staff through support, education and resources as needed.
  • Assists in orientation as needed and oversees staff onboarding for designated shift.
  • Completes designated staff performance and competency evaluation.
  • Completes audits as assigned by the CNO, including chart audits, hand hygiene audits, and environmental rounds.
  • Serves as Nurse On Call during designated hours as assigned.
  • Ensure the unit environment and nursing stations are kept neat and functional.
  • Assures the provision of a safe and therapeutic milieu for all patients on the unit, assesses and alters the milieu according to the needs of the patient.
  • Assures that the health care needs of all patients on the unit are identified and met, through use of the nursing process.
  • Provides direct patient care as a role model for nursing staff.
  • Advocates for changes within the nursing program consistent with market trends, customer needs and standards of program performance.
  • Ensures interventions are with in psychiatric and medical nursing procedures, as well as the plan of care.
  • Establishes and expects compliance of specific standards of patient care for the patients on the unit, including coercion-free initiatives.
Job Requirements
  • Education: Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing required. Bachelor's of Science in Nursing preferred.
  • Experience:  Five (5) years’ experience as a registered nurse, preferably in a psychiatric health care facility, required.  Supervisor and managerial experience preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification: Currently licensed to practice by the Illinois State Board of Nursing. Successful completion of CPR certification, age-specific training  and the current patient aggression management training, including appropriate use of Seclusion and Restraint, within 90 days of employment. Must pass a medication administration exam. Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge and implementation of psychiatric, medical and A.N.A. standards and nursing procedures that meet standards including State Nurse Practice Act and Code of Ethics. Knowledge of all facets of patient care, nursing and clinical systems. Thorough knowledge of psychiatric and medical nursing procedures is essential. Skill at assessing census/acuity and managing staffing issues within departmental budgetary guidelines. Knowledge of Mental Health Laws and Child Abuse/Neglect/ Maltreatment Laws, and the Department of Human Services provider agreement, if applicable. Effective oral and written communication skills.  Skill in organizing and prioritizing workloads to meet deadlines. Must be a self-starter and goal/results-oriented. Ability to use good judgment and to maintain confidentiality of information. Strong Microsoft Office and computer skills. Strong customer service skills to external and internal customers. Ability to adhere to safety policies and code procedures react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to accept direction and adhere to policies and procedures. Ability to work in a fast paced environment. Strong problem solving skills. Ability to generate, interpret and communicate data from statistical reports. Leadership and management skills.  Must value and support hospital goals, objectives and treatment philosophy.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.  Physical agility to manage patients with crisis prevention interventions.  Push, pull and lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to use computer, printer, phone, and office supplies. Intermittent sitting, standing, walking, bending and stooping. Drug and alcohol free as evidenced by negative results of post-offer, pre-employment urine drug screen.  The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the functions of this job.
