Job Description
  • Patient Safety-In collaboration with manager, works with Medical Staff and other departments to ensure coordination and integration of clinical processes to ensure patient safety and regulatory compliance.

  • Patient Rounding – successfully rounds on every patient, every shift andis focused on meeting or exceeding the department goals.

  • Acts as a role model for other staff and teaches proper rounding techniques and skills.

  • Customer Service/Guest Relations – Role model for coordinating and integrating interdepartmental services.

  • Identifies inter-intradepartmental problems, creates and shares plan to resolve issues, implements and evaluates plan with assistance and approval of Director/Manager. Demonstrates effective communication skills/handles complaints in a timely and effective manner/participates in conflict resolution.

  • Quality – Active member of performance improvement activities in the department.

  • Active participant in concurrent record reviews for completeness of documentation of nursing care.

  • In partnership with the Director/Manager, develops and implements policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services.

  • Provides input for Policy and Procedure development.

  • EMTALA/COBRA – With instruction from the Director/Manager, assures compliance with all mandated state and federal regulations.

  • Screens and completes HPRR’s pertinent to department, identifies trends and collaborates with manager to resolve issues.

Job Requirements

MINIMUM ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE

  • Two (2) years of recent department specific experience required.
  • Charge nurse, supervisory expertise in department specific preferred.

MINIMUM ESSENTIAL EDUCATION

  • Completion of an accredited Registered Nursing Program
  • BSN preferred

REQUIRED LICENSURE / CERTIFICATIONS

  • Registered Nurse with current California RN license.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • ACLS certification.
  • PALS where pediatric patients are cared for.
  • Basic EKG/tele interpretation experience required OR completing a Basic EKG class within six months of employment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Ability to function in a busy environment with shifting and evolving priorities. 
  • Ability to set priorities and accomplish multiple tasks on a daily basis. 
  • Subject to varying and unpredictable situations.
  • Subject to many interruptions. 
  • Handles emergency crises situations. 
  • Ability to communicate verbally and written, continuously. 
  • Handles customer complaints in a positive, service-oriented manner.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS

  • Attention to detail, high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and function effectively under high volumes of patients.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Solid understanding of English, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, BSA, circumference and volume.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
