Job Description

Poplar Springs Hospital, a 183 bed acute care and residential facility, is located in Petersburg, Virginia, 20 minutes south of Richmond and 50 minutes north of North Carolina. Situated on 25 acres, our serene, nature-like setting offers our patients a sense of calmness and peace. For more than 30 years Poplar Springs Hospital has been guided by its mission of helping those who need the full continuum of behavioral services. Our facility offers behavioral and psychological treatment for adults and adolescents through our acute programs, adolescent residential programs, sexually abusive youth services, as well as programs for active duty military. Poplar Springs Hospital is currently seeking a mental health counselor/therapist for the Military Unit, a nationally recognized program in a state of the art 32 bed facility.

 

The candidate will:

Provide psycho-social assessments, individual and family therapies

Carry a case load, develop treatments plans, lead special focus process/educational groups, and participate in unit activities

Maintain regular contact with resident’s referral sources, command, and families.  

Provide timely and accurate documentation

Perform continuous quality improvement activities, such as chart audits and documentation review, and complete other duties as assigned.

 

 

Job Requirements

Position Requirements:

  • Master's degree in a social services/counseling field
  • LCSW/LPC preferred
  • CSAC preferred
  • An understanding of the military culture and experience dealing with the challenges faced by military
  • Previous experience working with substance abuse and PTSD populations
  • CPR and CPI Certifications required (will be obtained during employee orientation).
